Morning click: D'Angelo busted, RIP Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse
By Ally Schweitzer
- R&B singer D'Angelo was busted Saturday for solicitation in New York. The troubled singer was arrested after offering an undercover police officer $40 to perform a particular sex act. He was also carrying $12,000 in his Range Rover. In my dreams, D'Angelo takes all that money and puts it toward recording "Voodoo" #2.
- The music world mourns the death of Mark Linkous, aka Sparklehorse, who committed suicide on Saturday. Rolling Stone has a retrospective on the multi-instrumentalist, who was close to finishing a new album for Anti- records.
- Wale was a guest commentator on ESPN's 1st and 10 last week (which, for the record, I never watched before this clip. Good cross marketing strategy, ESPN!). The rapper demonstrates an impressive knowledge of sports, then indulges Skip Bayless in a bizarre argument over who gets the Greatest Rapper of All Time crown. Wale says Jay-Z, hands down; Bayless begs to differ, averring that Hova's lyricism skills, while formidable, are dampened by his lack of charisma onstage. Touché, Skip!
