Area concert cancellations abound this Monday afternoon: Live Nation announced that the Eagles/Dixie Chicks/Keith Urban concert scheduled for June 15th at Nationals Park has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

Meantime, 80s synth poppers Swing Out Sister are stuck in the UK thanks to that crazy Icelandic volcano. Tonight's gig at the Birchmere has been postponed.

And tragically, African guitarist King Sunny Ade announced today that he's shelved his North American tour in the wake of a car crash that killed two members of his band.

Let's hope the rest of the spring concert season fares better than this.

How can you have a scheduling conflict for a concert announced months ago? Is that code for "we couldn't sell any tickets"?

I suspect they couldn't get enough suckers to buy the tickets. It was $55 minimum on the early-bird offer and went up into the hundreds. Not a good deal and definitely not when at least 1/3 of the concert was of no interest to me.
