In concert: You really want to see Phoenix tonight at Constitution Hall but it's very sold out. Sorry. I just saw them play four songs at NPR for a Tiny Desk Concert (blurry photo evidence) and I'm not even a huge fan but I must say it was great. Not to rub it in or anything. Review on this blog tomorrow, of course. You can always check out Vieux Farka Toure if you need your music fix tonight. Better than your everyday pop-punk band Motion City Soundtrack plays 9:30 club on Wednesday. Look for an interview with the band leading up to the show. Senegalese singer/guitarist Baaba Maal performs at Lisner Auditorium on Friday Thursday while one half of L.A. punk legends X - John Doe and Exene Cervenka - perform at Iota that night. It's another sold-out show, but Echo and the Bunnymen will be at Black Cat on Friday. I am going to do my best to transcribe the best bits of an interview from 2009 SXSW with Ian McCulloch. Between the accent and the drunken slurring I have my work cut out for me. And the Merriweather Post Pavilion season kicks off with My Morning Jacket - couldn't think of a better band to open things. Great band to listen to outdoors on a perfect spring night. Just hope for a perfect spring night.

In stores: Reviews of new albums on this blog tomorrow: Gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, reggaeton megastar Daddy Yankee and rapper B.o.B.. And, of course, the long, long, long, long-delayed new one from Hole. Other releases of note: the debut from The Mynabirds, featuring Laura Burhenn (formerly of locals Georgie James); "Fearless Love" by Melissa Etheridge; some wonderful vintage indie-pop from the Lodger on Slumberland Records; and excellent get-the-point garage rock from Unnatural Helpers on Hardly Art. (The label named after a lyric from the best Thermals song, of course.)

On TV: Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings finally got back from Europe and will be on "The Colbert Report" tonight. He's also got OK Go on Thursday. Hole will be on "Letterman" Tuesday, with Courtney Love booked as a guest as well. May want to set the DVR for that one. The Hold Steady will do manic hand gestures on "Letterman" on Thursday. Broadway-turned-country cheeseball Laura Bell Bundy will be on "Leno" Thursday. Chris is pumped for Paramore on "Fallon" Thursday. Then stay up a little later to catch Holly Golightly on "Carson Daly."
