P-Funk guitarist Garry Shider fighting cancer

While reporting a recent story about Parliament-Funkadelic's legendary Mothership, I learned that the band's longtime guitarist (and Upper Marlboro resident), Garry Shider has been diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. Based on Shider's spirited performance at the 9:30 club with P-Funk last month, fans never would have known it.

Since then, Shider's friends and family have launched the Garry Shider Medical Fund to help the guitarist pay for his medical care. Fans can visit the website to learn more and make a donation.
