Garry Shider, the legendary guitarist of Parliament-Funkadelic and Upper Marlboro resident has died after being diagnosed with brain and lung cancer in March.

Known by fans as "Diaper Man" for the gigantic diaper he wore while performing onstage, Shider will be remembered as one of funk music's most brilliant guitarists and songwriters. He performed with P-Funk at the 9:30 club in April.

A native of Plainfield, New Jersey, Shider was 56 years old. Read the New Jersey Star-Ledger's obituary here.
