M.I.A. addresses New York Times article; Celine Dion pregnant with twins; Go-go legend Little Benny dies
By Chris Richards
- After an unflattering New York Times profile of M.I.A. made the rounds last week, the British rapper has fired back at reporter Lynn Hirschberg on her blog. In a post titled "WAR CRIMES AND FRENCH FRIES," M.I.A. supplies streaming audio of Hirschberg encouraging her to try the now-infamous truffle fries. (If none of this makes any sense, here's some background.) The blog post also misspells Hirschberg's first name as "Lynne" and includes a new M.I.A. track, "I'm a Singer."
- Celine Dion is expecting twins, according to the Associated Press. The 42-year-old singer is already 14 weeks along. Kinda related: Why haven't you read this book yet?
- Sad news spread across Washington over the holiday weekend: Local go-go musician Anthony "Little Benny" Harley died in his sleep on Sunday. As a member of Rare Essence, Proper Utensils and Little Benny and the Masters, Harley was widely recognized as a legend in the scene. Read his Washington Post obituary here.
