TV on the radio: Fictitious dance anthem "Dip and Pitts" gets airtime on WKYS

By Erin Williams

Last week, Twitter was inundated with talk of a new dance craze called "Dip and Pitts." But it didn't come from the likes of Soulja Boy or Lil B -- it came from resurgent BET sitcom The Game.

Could it be 2011’s version of the “Bed Intruder?" Or maybe the new "Cupid Shuffle?" Maybe so, according to WKYS DJ EZ Street, who says he's the first DJ in the nation to play the song. "Even though it's not a bona fide record, [the show's fans are] definitely on to something," EZ tells Click Track.

(But what's the Pitsy Shuffle? And why are so many people tweeting about it? Find out after the jump.)

To bring you non-Gamers up to speed: In last week’s episode, football-star-turned-sports-commentator Jason Pitts (played by Coby Bell) decided to capitalize on the fame from his dance song ("one-million downloads!") called the “Dip and Pitts,” a.k.a. the “Pitsy Shuffle." On last week's episode, his embarrassing public performance of the tune resulted in a bruise to the ego. But in real life, fans of "The Game" turned "Dip and Pitts" into an online sensation.

EZ Street, who updates his Facebook page and Twitter account frequently during the show, asked his followers if he should play the song on the air. The response was overwhelming, and on Wednesday, he went for it. After playing a segment of the song, he told listeners that if they wanted to hear more, he needed 93 requests via Twitter or phone. "I probably got like 200 calls in less than an hour," EZ says.

Since closing out his Wednesday show by playing the song in its entirety, EZ has gotten retweets from BET and from The Game. But he isn't ready to call it a movement. "I don't know if I created it," he says. "But I have made a small contribution."

Meantime, here are some of the latest Dip and Pitts tweets:

sweet_thriller: Bout to #DipAndPitts into work...

RappStarStatus: Finna Make The #DipAndPitts My Ring Tone Lol !!!!! RT

tikhari: Ok all jokes aside I wanna download the #DipAndPitts track now

AbsoluteArshay: Sumtimes I just be walking & just catch myself hitting the #DipAndPitts smh..

TiaMakinMoves: #dipandpitts by Jason Pitts still crack me up #nw the Game

Mahatma_Ganja: the #dipandpitts is my celebration dance for 2011

With a new episode of "The Game" airing tonight, will Jason try to bring it back one more time? Or will he let it fade into fictitious-athlete-turned-recording-artist history? Find out tonight at 10:00 on BET. Hey-oh!
