Singles file: Radiohead, Hayes Carll, Cee-Lo Green
Hayes Carll tackles LSD, space travel and the Taliban on his new single.
A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind...
Radiohead: "Codex (Mojib remix)"
Little more than a day after the release of "King of Limbs," Swedish producer (and inveterate Radiohead remixer) Mojib gently reconfigures one of its saddest, simplest tracks.
Hayes Carll: "KMAG YOYO"
The hoodie-wearing devil baby of Todd Snider and Ernest Tubb, Carll will never be as famous - not even blog-famous - as he deserves to be. The title track from his new disc (an acronym for the military term "Kiss My [expletive] Guys, You're On Your Own") is a honky-tonk tall tale involving hallucinogens, space travel and the Taliban.
Cee-Lo Green: "Robot Sex"
Wouldn't it have been great if this (probable) "Lady Killer" outtake was actually about the metallic fumblings of those oversize "Lost in Space" robots? It isn't, though.
Yeasayer: "Crazy" (Seal cover)
The Brooklyn hipsters do a folk-based and entirely earnest cover of the only good song Seal has done, complete with Seal-like British accents and phrasing.
Unknown: "Knock Knock"
The mysterious maker of last year's dubstep phenom "Sicko Cell" returns with its b-side, an almost equally great, slow-build banger.

Allison, funny line about Hayes Carll being the devil baby of Todd Snider and Ernest Tubbs. And is it me, or does Hayes Carll sound quite a bit like Todd Snider?
Both great songwriters! Wish we'd get more musicians like these guys to tour up here more often.
Enjoy your columns / reviews.
