A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind...
Britney Spears: "Till the World Ends"
This Ke$ha-co-penned electro-pop marvel may borrow more from Enrique Iglesias's "Tonight" than it should, but that's for the lawyers to decide. Meanwhile, the comeback-kick-starting second single from "Femme Fatale" is Spears's most joyously danceable track in a long time.
Gorilla Warfare Tactics: "Bernie Madoff"
The out-of-nowhere NYC trio, which specializes in deathly serious, hyper-literate old-school hip-hop, has released one of the best recession-era tracks we've heard, complete with Barbra Streisand samples.
Rico Love: "Bi-Winning (On That Charlie Sheen)"
The best of the stitched-together Sheen Meets Rapper tracks we've heard this week, possibly because Love made this one with his brain. With his mind. And some interview sound samples and a vocoder, we're guessing. But mostly with his mind.
Gayngs: "No Scrubs" (P.O.S. Regrind)
The soft-rock titans (and Bon Iver compatriots) turn the hip-hop collective Doomtree loose on their "Relayted" disc, re-imagined as "Affiliyated." All the remixes are remarkably good, though none more than this slowed-down, messed-up, not-quite-remake of the T.L.C. classic.
Penny & the Quarters: "You and Me" The long-lost doo-wop soul track at the heart of the Ryan Gosling film "Blue Valentine" gets an official re-release.
