Calling all Montgomery Tipsters

As part of his effort to ensure Montgomery County's tax dollars are well spent, Executive Isiah Leggett this morning announced a new confidential hotline for county employees and contractors to report government fraud and waste.

Leggett was joined at a press conference by inspector general Thomas J. Dagley, who will oversee the hotline and is asking for reports about theft of county funds or property, kickbacks, fraudulent travel or other reimbursement claims.

Tipsters can call 800-971-6059, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week or make reports via the web or by email.

Residents who want to report problems can call 240-777-2500 or visit the county's web site.

I thought the IG was supposed to be independent of either the County Exec or the County Council. If so, why is Dagley appearing at press conferences with the County Exec?

I would be a lot more impressed with this latest campaign against waste if the links actually worked.

You can tell which way the wind blows by looking at a straw. Ike Leggett hired a highly qualified man as County CAO, a man who had been head of OMB. The problem is Leggett gave him a $50,000 raise when he was already earning more than a U.S. Senator! If someone claims to be looking for waste, but fails to include his own salary, who is he kidding? We have already had the call for huge gasoline tax increase which Leggett never once mentioned in his many, expensive campaign mailings. Other, big increases in property tax and energy tax are sure to follow. If a former head of OMB is not interested in controlling spending, nobody in Rockville will be.

Hey Robin - you lost. People in droves decided your message had no validity. So why do you keep spewing the venom? What makes you think that this message of hate will finally connect?

Here is what you should work on - making it legal to run for more than one elected office at a time - that way you can run for County Council, County Executive, State Delegate, State Senator, Governor and Congress all at the same time and maybe you can keep another Repuglican from getting elected. Now that would be a service to America if you ask me.

The Leggett team thinks it can mask its tax increases by attacking Robin Ficker personally. He is not raising taxes, they are. There was no need to give Mr. Firestine a $50,000 raise.

The reason people attack Robin Ficker so often is because he continuously sets himself up as a target. I think he gets some crazed satisfaction from it.

People who don't like Leggett's tax increase ideas are "Crazed," and filled with "Hate." He sounds like a dictator from the third world.
