The Red Army
Fans are definitely rocking the red here at Verizon Center. Kind of makes you wonder how much Caps gear has been sold between last season and now.
I ran into Comcast SportsNet color analyst Craig Laughlin in the elevator, and he seemed pretty impressed by the sea of red (and mostly Alex Ovechkin) jerseys.
"It's almost like the Russian Red Army," he said. "They all love Ovechkin over there."
Laughlin said he remembered a 'white-out' when he played for the Caps back in the 80's. He likes the red, though.
"I'm glad they brought these colors back," he said.
Side note: I want to apologize to those commenters who were upset with me for not wearing red, but just for the record, nobody else in the press box is wearing red. Not a one!

Yes, and as usual, there was someone wearing the opponent's jersey in the Washington Post suite (and plenty of Caps fans, too, in fairness). What's your point? You don't have to be neutral. You're a blogger for the WASHINGTON paper, for goodness' sake.

I walked into the 7th and E Starbucks a few hours ago and the sidewalk was a river of red Ovechkin jerseys--kids, adults, couples. Very impressive--one of the first real "happenings" in this area and you could feel the excitement.
