Ebenezer Isn't on Easy Street

While parking restrictions have helped some residents, there are neighborhood fixtures that suffer, even when they're more than a mile from the ballpark.

At the Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Fourth Street SE, parking for those without a residential permit is now limited to two hours on Sundays as well as weekdays, because of the game schedule.

"Previously, we had signs that restrict parking only during the week," said the church's Rev. John Blanchard, whose congregation has already felt discouraged from coming to church. All but two members drive to church and don't have the residential parking permit, Blanchard said.

"I got calls before Easter from people worried about getting tickets and getting towed," he said.

Blanchard has been writing and calling the District's Department of Transportation, hoping for some help. "Their response has been slim to none," he said.
