Things weren't always cozy between the city and the Nationals as the new publicly funded $611 million ballpark project was under construction in Southeast. They jousted over parking and how much there could be and over who would pay for what.

But with a smooth opening day under their belt everyone was all smiles Monday.

"MPD was out in force and they were great," Nationals executive Gregory McCarthy said of the police. "WMATA performed great," he said of the Metro folks.

This week, city officials and team representatives will meet to go over the opening week and what can be done to improve it.

They get to do it all over again on Monday, with the Nationals first homestand, an evening game against the Florida Marlins.

Of course, it'll take a winning team to keep the fans coming. So far the Nats are off to a good start. They beat the Orioles in an exhibition, edged the Braves in Sunday's opener and yesterday, pummeled the Phildadelphia Phillies.
