Camp Obama, Camp Clinton in Indiana

Camp Clinton: Tom Smith
Tuesday, May 6 ...
Before calling it a day on Monday, my group made one last canvassing stop - a carnival in a strip mall near Indianapolis. Mixing a little bit of fun with politics, I met one man whose wife had died about a year ago. He was a Republican and wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton. He got my attention initially by bellowing, "Tell me one good reason to vote for her." I responded that I had a lot more than one good reason and we talked. As he shared the story about his wife, he began to tear up as he said he had a hard time paying for his wife's medication despite having health insurance.
Stay tuned for Camp Obama

Before calling it a day on Monday, my group made one last canvassing stop - a carnival in a strip mall near Indianapolis. Mixing a little bit of fun with politics, I met one man whose wife had died about a year ago. He was a Republican and wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton. He got my attention initially by bellowing, "Tell me one good reason to vote for her." I responded that I had a lot more than one good reason and we talked. As he shared the story about his wife, he began to tear up as he said he had a hard time paying for his wife's medication despite having health insurance. "Something has to be done." What I thought might be a hostile conversation turned into an earnest discussion about policy issues and family loss. Finally, he told me, "Hillary has my vote. I'll be at the poll first thing in the morning."
There still are a lot of undecided voters despite the lateness of the hour. But, voters today seem eager to share their dislike for Obama.
Speaking of the lateness of the hour, my assignment for Election Day will require an early start. I will be working as a poll watcher. Start time is 5:30 AM. Now that Indiana voters must show ID at the polls after the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, there are new concerns about irregularities. My job will be to report any irregularities I observe. Polls opened today at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
