In Case You Missed It:

District Council member Mary M. Cheh decided yesterday to table her energy bill after being pelted with questions from council colleagues and heavy lobbying from utility companies such as Pepco. A big sticking point: aid to the poor to help pay utility bills.

Also, auditor Deborah K. Nichols issued a report heavily criticizing the Office of Tax and Revenue and Accenture, the consulting company that runs OTR's computer system. Nichols said OTR paid the company more than $2 million in improper charges, including airfare to Puerto Rico, cable television bills and $3,000 apartment rentals.

Tax scandal guilty pleas have been plentiful lately, and yesterday, former Bank of America manager Walter Jones became the latest person to take a plea in the embezzlement case that rocked the District. Tax workers at the Office of Tax and Revenue, along with outside associates, are accused of stealing up to $50 million from the city.
