And why on Earth would anyone cover a party that accepts Cynthia McKinney outside the comedy section?

Why would coverage in the Post guarantee them of anything? If they can't round up more than 15 people for a demonstration against this monolisth that's keeping them down, I don't think coverage in the post would help their cause.

...and even here, you could not report accurately about Ms McKinney. She did not say ""We know that if the media covered our platform ..... they would establish us as the second political party in this nation,"
but rather "We know that if the media would cover our platform, .... establish us as a legitimate third party in this country" The Green Party is often the second political party in DC. It saddens me that some people can't open their minds and listen to Cynthia and instead buy into distortion of minor incidents in her past rather than all the good work she has done and continues to do speaking truth to power.

Go Greens! You are supported. Don't listen to these haters. Keep going!

I really wish there was a viable third party. I guess enough of us have to be really really sick of our parties to make that happen. Oh wait..I am really sick of our political parties. Perhaps this could be the year? The problem is, between Bob Barr and Cynthia McKinney probably Bob Barr is the most sellable. But not by much. Oh, how I wish a mainstream person would go independent. Someone like Hillary Clinton or even Chuck Hagel. If one of them did that then I would guarantee a new third part would definately become viable. Right now my vote is going to no one in either GOP or Democrat!

I like the Washington Post and I have faith that they will cover the Green Party this season, if even as a "human interest story".

PS to the Washington Post: The Greens are used to doing things on the cheap due to refusing corporate bribes and donations. You can probably hire a Green Correspondent for (organically grown fair trade) peanuts.

I'd rather know what's up with the Communist Party. They use to have these great rally's in Tacoma Park. The Greens, well, all's I can say is the Dingo's keep eating all their babies. They can't seem to grow new voter's.

This is how the Post responds to the charge of bias? With a lame attempt at snark? Dana Milbank's response to the charge of taking a quote out of context was flippant and unprofessional as well. Exactly what one has come to expect from the Post. I am so glad I don't pay for this fish wrapper.

The Post is afraid to cover the Green Party. They know their advertisers won't like it.

The Green Party is the party of today and the future and it will be a majority party sooner than later in the US, that's why there is no press coverage. Both parties know that and rather take an offensive and hostile approach to discredit it. Too late. The American grassroots is diligently working to make it happen. Greens will tackle the needs of our population. Change is imminent, change of parties for the good of all, I mean.

The Green party soon will be replaced with the Big Bootay Party. Th BBP will be the place to be, although space is limited. The bootie really is big here.

All parties on the presidential ballot in a majority of the states should receive respectable coverage from national media.
This would include the Constitution Party, the Green Party, The Libertarian Party and the Nader/Gonzalez campaign.
The July 29 CNN poll put Nader at 6%, the Libertarian Bob Barr at 3% and McKinney at 1%.
These campaigns and parties have been around for a while and are not going away. They have developed positions the kind of politics that plenty of people support, even though they don't get to vote for it very often. You'd think the Post and other professional media would give more coverage to the minor parties, just to break the monotony of the Dem/Rep horse race.

My favorite line from the article, from the Post's executive editor:

"Future coverage of third-party candidates, he said, "would be based on the past performance of those candidates, and how much interest we think our readers have in them."

How's that for a cyclical error? You can't get a feel for the interest if you don't cover something, and you won't cover something you don't think people are interested in. I think that's a clever way of saying "we just don't care".

I don't like this perpetuation of the two party system and the media's complicity. We need real alternatives.
