Cheh Calls for Public Forums on CareFirst

The D.C. Council's Committee on Public Services and Consumer Affairs would like to hear from you if you're a subscriber to CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (non-HMO) health insurance. Committee chair Mary M. Cheh (D-Ward 3), who is leading an investigation of CareFirst's compliance with its nonprofit mission, is hosting community forums to hear from residents regarding the company's quality of service.

The first forum, for Wards 3 and 4, is set for tomorrow from 7-9 p.m, at the Chevy Chase Community Center, 5601 Connecticut Ave. NW, Cheh's office said.

Last month the committee and the attorney general's office teamed up to push back at the provider, which has been challenged for its limited use of its public funds. Besides the council investigation, Interim Attorney General Peter J. Nickles filed a lawsuit, trying to force the company to contribute millions in community benefits.

Months earlier, the company dropped out of the Healthy D.C. plan, an initiative to get health care for all city residents.

The dates and locations of the other Cheh forums will be announced shortly, said Asher Corson, a spokesman for the councilmember.

"We're hoping to get as much feedback from the public to help the investigation, just to figure out what CareFrist is doing with all that money," he said.

The public does not need to voice their concerns but the council knows what it must do so it should just do it!

Their phone behavior is really insulting and the employees seem to enjoy saying anything they want to the customers.

It is a mafia working at carefirst.

Someone should determine whether they are treating customers differently based on race.

Are you kidding me? Cheh needs to stop wasting my tax dollars with her witch hunt on CareFirst. Like the majority of Democratics in Ward 3, I didn't vote for Cheh. Does that bring into question Cheh's quality of service to our community?

Here's a suggestion. Take all the resources you're wasting on your smear campaign and invest it in getting the drug dealers out of my church parking lot.
