Are the Wiz All In Or Not?!?!

So in the fourth quarter of last night's heartbreaking Wiz loss I was chatting with a Wiz PR type about the team's new slogan--"Go All In"--which was discussed in this space yesterday. The new slogan, of course, replaced "One Team, One Goal," which the team had used for the past two seasons. "Go All In" was meant to suggest more confidence, more toughness, etc.

So a few minutes later, G-Wiz and the cheer people started chucking t-shirts into the stands. One landed in my hands; I gave it to a fan behind me without untying it. But Bog friend Lauren Houlon of Triple X ESPN Radio (Home of the Redskins), who was highly insulted that her cheese comments didn't make their way into yesterday's cheese tasting post, pointed out that a woman a few rows in front of us had completely laid out in a full-body dive to grab one of the t-shirts away from a friend.

So I went down to talk to the woman, Avanti Fernandez, and she showed me her hard-earned t-shirt. "One Team, One Goal," it said. "Washington Wizards '05-'06," it said. Last year's slogan. She dove over a row of folding chairs for last year's slogan.

"I thought it was special," Avanti said. "It's not. I feel like I dislocated my shoulder for an '05-'06 t-shirt."

Now obviously she was joking, but seriously, are the Wiz going all in or not? If they are, and if they're supposed to be showing more confidence and more toughness through the use of this slogan, shouldn't they lose those remnants of the old, less-confident, less-tough regime?

And aren't the Redskins in charge of trotting out worn-out things that should have been retired a year ago?

The kids in front of me didn't seem to know the difference, at least I found it funny.
Somehow I managed to leave my verizon hat under my seat.

The problem of course with "One Team One Goal" was what exactly was the goal? The playoffs? The 2nd round? A championship?

Washington Wizards: Go All In! ......

Eventually.

DSteinz - can you use your immense blog powers to convince the organization to change the name back to the Bullets? I'd settle for a poll of the players.

If you're using a poker analogy here, maybe the message the Wizards are sending is that, while you should go "all in" with the Wizards this season, you should not recklessly go all in. Instead, pick your spots to go all in effectively and emphasize a different strategy, that being the old slogan, for the majority of the time.

Alright, maybe not.

My honest explanation is that they wanted to get rid of old T-shirts, which is silly because they could just sell them to Unsilent Majority and be done with it.

Did you really just describe a Wizards preseason loss as "heartbreaking?" Because honestly, in the middle of football season I don't think anyone is paying that much attention.

Well, it wasn't really "just".....it was more than 24 hours ago. But yeah, I did. Football is for fantasy geeks and gambling addicts. Passion resides at 7th and F. Trust me.
