Info dump, on the Wiz, and Caps, and United
This has been, to be sure, an exciting few hours. In the past 20 or so hours I've watched ESPN.com run a poll for Gilbert Arenas's nickname that looks shockingly like mine (I love you ESPN.com!!!!!); walked through and past piles of horse droppings at the Washington Horse Show in order to reach Wizards practice (I love you horsies!!!!!); taken the old and new NBA basketballs to the office of future D.C. Council Chair Vincent Gray to get his expert opinion; been stopped on the street by approximately 2,734 people who wanted to touch the old and new basketballs; been completely shown up in a clockwise-directional-basketball-spinning contest by Wiz Coach Eddie Jordan--who, with many media members watching, spun the new basketball on his finger, and then on his forehead and then around and down his arms into my waiting hands; shared a cab with official Wizards beat writer Ivan "the Terrible" Carter (who thinks I look like a white Sam Cassell) after he asked a poor Greenpeace campaigner for her opinions on the new basketballs; and been forwarded an e-mail that reveals strong support for my United-Caps Mash-Up plan. Like, really, really strong support. Here's the text of the e-mail, which was sent to Caps supporters today:
As a special offer to our fans and in support of our friends at D.C. United, we're pleased to offer you the chance to see United face the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer playoff action on Sunday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium. Through this offer, you'll receive discount pricing and a FREE MLS signature soccer ball with each order. Take advantage of this special deal while supplies last!
And, Caps fans, if that isn't enough to get you out (Sunday night, tailgate starts around 2), I got an e-mail from a United fan promising six-packs of Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and Smuttynose IPA, all delights of hop-filled hoppiness. Plus, this same United fan (Mike Terry, the pumpkin man) promises that he will have two elaborately carved pumpkins at the tailgate. One will honor former United star Marco Etcheverry (for induction into the DCU Wall of Honor) and current star Christian Gomez (for the MVP-caliber year he is having). The other pumpkin will be in honor of Duffman's mom, who passed away from breast cancer two years ago this month. (Read prior entry on Duffman here.) The Barra will be raffling off DCU goodies to raise money for breast cancer research at the tailgate. Come for the raffle, stay for the pumpkins.

Mike Terry's pumpkins are worthy of anyone's time. They've always been spectactular.

Those pumpkins are freakin' sweet!!! In addition to the raffle, we will be conducting a Silent Auction to win a date with Bobby Boswell (Mr. Cosompolitan). It is accompanied with a $200 gift certificate to Clyde's. Bring your checkbook ladies. (Sorry, the Duffman is not up for auction. Maybe next year.)

I liked ESPN's use of Captain Quirk to describe Gil... it wasn't in their poll, but was down near the bottom of the Wiz preview page.

Mike Terry's the resident Barra mad genius. Ask to see some of his other work which in no short order consists of a Barra Brava crossing sign (you'll get it once you see it at the tailgate) and the BEER MAN sign we use in the stadium when Bill the Beer dude is slacking. Just a couple of his mad creations....

I've also gotten Terry Francona and Moby before.
More importantly, I can't believe no one's celebrating my landmark achievement in the D.C. sports landscape. I can also tell you that if things go well at RFK this weekend, there are tentative plans for some DCU players to attend the Caps game vs. Atlanta on Nov. 3. With me in tow, hopefully.

Wow. If I were Ivan Carter I would never speak to you again. "A white Sam Cassell"? Ouch.

You and IMAN should have taken a horse home, not a cab!!!
Fools!!!

In case there's any confusion, Ivan Carter said I look like the white Sam Cassell, not the other way around. I would never say Ivan looks like the white Sam Cassell, primarily because he's not, you know, white.

"I love you ESPN.com!!!!!"
you're dead to me.
Ivan is great but in this case he's wrong. I think Dan Schulman makes a lot more sense.
