Red Meat for Wiz Fans
Official Wizards Beat Writer Ivan Carter, Dripping-With-Cynicism Photographer Jonathan Newton and I were eating dinner on the back patio of some nondescript Irish bar in downtown Richmond last night when the parade began. First Roger Mason Jr. and Brendan Haywood. Then a gang of five (sorry, it was dark outside). Then The Puzzler with an unidentified companion. All making the trek to Morton's, a shining beacon of expensive red meat across the street from us.
"Their per diem is a little different than ours, boys," the Official Wizards Beat Writer pointed out. (Although the three of us did bust the NBA editor's budget by sharing some bread pudding for dessert.)
A proper blogger clearly would have left his mushy veggie burger behind and sprinted over to Morton's to, I don't know, see whether The Puzzler prefers creamed spinach or mashed potatoes, and whether Haywood likes Baby Carrots, and whether the Wiz steaks resemble the Wiz defense (badly burned).
But I was still too depressed after the waitress had decided to ID the 31-year-old Official Wizards Beat Writer but not the 30-year-old Official Sports Bogger. ("If it makes you feel any better, I'm really bad with ages," she said, before describing some sort of tomato Chipotle cream sauce thing.) So I just sat there and stared at the so-close-and-yet-so-far beacon of expensive red meat and NBA players.
We were there long enough for Mason and Haywood to emerge and promise us they were heading back to their hotel to get some rest. I should have told them that I needed something better than that for my blog, but I was still thinking about my age.

Your shameless self-promotion and repeated references to a guy I played highschool ball with (Roger Mason Jr) have drawn me to this bog. Oops, I was born in '66. I couldn't possibly have hooped with him. Go Zards!

What kind of self-respecting "Irish Bar" would offer anything in a tomato chipotle cream sauce?
