From Faith, to Killer Kegs of Death

Not to switch gears too dramatically from Joe Gibbs and the Book of Job and faith and all that, but here's your Screaming Eagles tailgate update for this weekend, courtesy of an SE song leader and organizer-type.

The Screaming Eagles are proud to announce that our tailgate for the Eastern Conference Finals, the last home game of the year for our beloved DC boys, is FREE TO ALL MEMBERS and will be catered by Rocklands BBQ. If you've ever been to Rocklands, you know they have the best BBQ in the area, so we're all pretty excited about this.

The menu:
BBQ beef brisket
BBQ pulled pork (rolls will be available too)
BBQ chicken
BBQ baby back ribs
Grilled skewers of sliced vegetables
BBQ baked beans, potato salad, pasta salad w/artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes
Mini honey-jalapeno corn muffins

If you're a member, all you'll need to do is show your membership card and you'll be good to go (if you just recently joined we will have a membership roster). If you're not a member or you're bringing non-members to the game, no sweat. Non-members can eat for $5 if ordered in advance and $8 at the game. Send payment via www.paypal.com and include the names of the non-members to payments@screaming-eagles.com to order in advance and get the discount. Deadline for advance orders is 5 pm, Saturday, November 4 (and please print a copy of your receipt and bring with you). Day of game tickets can be purchased at the SE ticket window, Lot 5, Gate B. If you have extra tailgate passes, hold onto them and you can use at the first few tailgates in 2007.

And the beer. Oh yes, the beer. We will have three kegs this week:
Red Hook IPA
Spaten Lager
Guinness

Yes, you read that right. There will be a keg of Guinness at the Screaming Eagles tailgate this week.

And while Mike Rumberg won't be able to make it this week, two of his famous Horse-Killing Liquor Kegs of Death will be there. One will be filled with cosmopolitans, as usual. The other keg - we're not sure just yet. We're working on something that will both be black-colored (to go with the red cosmos) and also taste good.

Of course, the Hpnotiq and the Rated X will be there, too. As will the usual selections of soda, water, lemonade, iced tea, and other non-alcoholic beverages.

And since it's a big game and this is a big party, we're starting early. Our doors will open at NOON this week. We'll start to take down between 3 and 3:15, so that everyone can be inside between 3:30 and 3:45. Get there early so you can fill up for FREE on all the tasty BBQ and beer.

Also, our special guests this week will be some of the players' wives, girlfriends, and families. Let's make sure they feel welcome!

Free to members? I don't get it.

Free to members of the Screaming Eagles.

Link you don't understand the membership part or the free part?

The SEs are a membership based supporters club, we have annual dues of $20. Our tailgates during the season include free drinks for members (just show your SE ID card) but not free food (there is a nominal fee to eat to cover our expenses). There is a tailgate committee who does all of the set up and cooking so it's like our own in-house catering service (all members have to do is show up and eat).

Yeah, I didn't get the free part. I thought if you were a member it was all free. My Bad. Thanks for clearing that up.

As the guy who chose Rocklands for this shindig - Wes, you don't like Rocklands compared to what? And don't say Red Hot & Blue because then you can just turn in your BBQ card and slink home.

If I could have had Salt Lick, Thelma's, or Arthur Bryant's shipped in I would have, but those options were obviously out. The best thing in the DC area (I'm not counting places in BFE Virginia now) is definitely Rocklands. All the meats are cooked juicy and tender and don't have acres of sauce slathered on them. That's what real barbecue is. If you want all that sauce, you put it on yourself.

There will be PLENTY of extra sauce available on the side on Sunday, BTW :)

Yes, I've been known to be saucy on the side (or is that soused?) ;-p

This will be the best SE tailgate ever. Barbeque, beans, beer and bouncing will probably produce a different kind of smoke bomb come 4:00 PM

DC United, Pulled Pork and Guinness - it's like my own little Nirvana. Thanks Paul.

Cap Q is the best BBQ in the area hands down. Go hit it up sometime its next to the MCI center on H at the intersection of 7th.

FYI - the Screaming Eagles have procured a 19-inch TV and two portable power packs for viewing of the Redskins-Cowboys game during the tailgate.
