Sam Hollenbach = Frank Reich

That was the buzz today, in advance of the meeting with Miami, the team that made Frank Reich famous. Reich, who is now the senior pastor at Cornerstone Presbyterian in Charlotte, performed the devotional for the Terps before their win over Florida State, which apparently kicked off the Sam and Frank comparisons.

So here are the stated similarities: Both wore No. 14. They have similar builds (Reich was 6-foot-3 209, and Hollenbach is listed at 6-5, 218). Both had fathers who were football coaches. N.C. State cornerbacks coach Greg "Not Cool Enough for the Third G" Williams told Ralph Friedgen theat the two QBs have similar mannerisms. There is also a school of thought that they look sort of similar.

Also, Friedgen said Reich's daughter is a highly regarded swimmer who is being recruited by the Maryland swimming team. Which is something I didn't know.

Friedgen also talked more about the kicking weekend that was. Nick Novak apparently calls Friedgen about once a week just to chat. Last week, Friedgen had a message.

"I told him you better start kicking those things through or you're gonna be out of work," Friedgen said.

So the Fridge started watching Sunday's Redskins game late in the fourth quarter, and stuck around long enough to see the missed Novak kick, but he had to do his media teleconference before Novak got that second chance. I would have thought he might keep a TV on in the background with that intensely dramatic drama bubbling up all around his former kicker, but nope, he said he didn't know what had happened until Novak called him later that night.

(Speaking of people who look like other people, check it out: Mike Green really is a dead ringer for that kid from Ferris Bueller.)

I just hope Sam doesn't have to bring the Terps back from 0-35 on Saturday like Reich did in '84. Good piece Dan.
