D.C. United Rips Out My Heart

Alecko Eskandarian, gone. Traded to Toronto FC for a partial allocation. First Rimando, and now this. Thanks, guys, for systematically purging the most Bog-friendly players from your organization. Next thing you know, you'll be trading Bobby Boswell's mom and that fan named Vlad. And now, when I need a professional athlete to throw pumpkins from the roof of RFK Stadium, I honestly have no idea to whom I'll turn. I'm just gonna rename this the Salt Lake-slash-Toronto Sports Bog and keep writing about those two.

Plus, when you remember that Virginia had perhaps its worst week of hoops in decades after ascending to No. 1 in the Bog Poll, you really do have to wonder about a curse.

Anyhow, since I never posted this, you can watch Esky talking meaningless mini-golf smack and missing about three dozen two-footers below. Try not to cry.

This is crazy. United had better be bringing in someone(s?) pretty incredible for all they're giving up.

Shhh...it's okay Daniel...shh...I know, I know...sometimes things happen that we don't have any control over...shhh...I know honey...come rest on Mommy's bosom...shhh...it'll be okay...shhhh....it's okay now honey...everything's going to be allllllright...

YOWZA...even though I have all the faith in the world in Kevin Payne, this news is still shocking. They must've had a pretty successful hunting expedition in South America.

In even more bog synergy, where did Esky play his college ball? You guessed it. UVa.

Posted by: FS | December 22, 2006 03:25 PM

I am going to sulk for a week. At least. This SUCKS.

Posted by: human | December 22, 2006 03:45 PM

Vlad's real name is Tyler

Posted by: JSF | December 22, 2006 03:49 PM

Why would they do that! He is going to be greatly missed!!

Posted by: ??? | December 22, 2006 03:54 PM

Dear Dan,

I'm sorry.

Love,
DCU

Dan,

You'll find new sources of joy, promise.

And Kevin Payne did say they were on the verge of "several major acquisitions," so you can only hope he knows what he's talking about. Too bad I'll need a progam to know the players next season!

Posted by: TG | December 22, 2006 04:14 PM

I'm reading the internets today, but I wish I hadn't. And no stadium til 2010. Balls.

Posted by: gudan | December 22, 2006 04:15 PM

blah :/

Posted by: Srdan | December 22, 2006 04:26 PM

Very depressing. The players we've supported are disappearing. We've lost 4 players this past week or so that played and won the championship final 2 years ago.

Best wishes to Esky. Hope he has some fur-lined headgear for the Great White North.

Posted by: garbaggio | December 22, 2006 04:34 PM

Why did I decide to read the Internets today? I hope to see 2004 final stretch Esky playing up in Toronto(unless he's playing DC).

Posted by: sitruc | December 22, 2006 04:59 PM

The fact that Esky had completely won me over, despite being a UVA grad, speaks volumes. He will be sorely missed.

Payne and Kasper had better have picked up some Gomez-level players.

This is almost as sad as Draft Weekend 2001, watching so many favorites go...

Posted by: Dave Lifton | December 22, 2006 05:11 PM

If they deal Vlad, it's over for me as a fan!

Posted by: Rack DC United! | December 22, 2006 06:32 PM

Is a Top 5 Esky moment list in order?

Posted by: Marc | December 22, 2006 08:14 PM

esky rocks. and i'm a hokie.

they REALLY better have some treats up their collective sleeves.

adu i'm okay with. rimando, i'm not so okay with, but i understand. everything else, fine. but esky? i ain't happy.

better show me something...

happy holidays, uniteds!

Posted by: fever | December 22, 2006 09:57 PM

it could have been worse: i read a rumor a few weeks ago that Esky might be dealt to Red Bull.

i think United will be able to replace Esky's production on the field, but there's no way they can replace his charisma unless they deal for Jimmy Conrad.

Posted by: jeremy | December 22, 2006 11:13 PM

The #1 Esky moment would have to be the Red Bull regurgitation celebration. Good times.

Posted by: Paul | December 22, 2006 11:38 PM

Yes, I learned today that I have been traded and that I am now Troy Perkins' mom, so at least I'm still with DC United.

Posted by: Susan Boswell | December 23, 2006 09:32 AM

At least KShel is offering condolences.....

that's helpful, though confusing at the same time.

Posted by: Sway | December 26, 2006 10:15 AM

Okay, Momma of Bozza, that's one of the funniest lines ever.
