Early Morning Taunting

Sorry, I turned my phone off last night. Something no good beat reporter should ever do, frankly.

At the risk of permanently alienating any readers I have who don't happen to be curious about Nick Rimando's future career as a spy, here are some updates.

1) Iceberg apparently left the following note on Jacqui's car:

"Dear Crazy Driver!!!"

I enjoyed every second of the chase!! You are getting good grasshopper!!! Trust me this will get old in about a week month year!!

Iceberg

2) Nick (aka The Goose), or someone working on his behalf, apparently sent the stalkers a text message from a bar named O'Sullivan's, a complete taunting of Sway, whose last name is Sullivan.

3) Iceberg and Sway apparently sprayed down the windows at Chez Rimando in frustration.

4) The Good Col. BD apparently tried to barricade the rode to Chez Rimando with his car, and then slept out near the house for a second consecutive night.

5) And then there's this:

What sort of fuss do you think the Airport police will put up when the stalkers pull their guns on nick at the Air Jamaica ticket counter? Seems that's gonna be their best shot (pun intended).

Ben better beef up security at his wedding.

Nick Rimando is AWSOME...

Maybe he should get the grand prize for taunting the hell out of the so-called warriors.

If Nick goes jogging out in the rain and gets hit, does it count?

Posted by: Chico | December 1, 2006 08:48 AM

Yeah, I guess God wins, then.

Posted by: Dan Steinberg | December 1, 2006 08:49 AM

Sherm,

I think as long as the guns aren't filled with a liquid they're OK by TSA standards.

Posted by: Kim | December 1, 2006 08:54 AM

This is just getting ugly. At one point do they declare a tie and say that Nick is just too hard to get? Also, any chance Roch makes you the target Dan? That would be an interesting twist.

So when are we getting the Robin Rexroat update?

K

Posted by: SEKim | December 1, 2006 09:27 AM

Maybe Rexroat waits until next week. I've been advised not to flood the market with too many strange DCU stories all at once.

Posted by: Dan Steinberg | December 1, 2006 09:45 AM

Isn't that like telling Michael Jordan to save some points for next week, or Michaelanglo to save some ceiling painting for the summer home?

Posted by: Sherm | December 1, 2006 10:19 AM

Dan, you have approached Woodward and Bernstein levels...have you figured out the identity of Deep Thumb (the phantom texter)?

Posted by: Bryan76 | December 1, 2006 10:33 AM

missed him twice last night by minutes! confirmed by staff at both locations

Posted by: SWay | December 1, 2006 10:55 AM

So Dan,
You hear anything about 006, the self-described "rogue agent"? I'm hearing he was chatting w/one of the five outside Nick's house last night, and has left some info at (and about) the vacant house next door.

Posted by: Casino Royale-with-cheese | December 1, 2006 10:56 AM

Is our boy Nick going to melt in the rain? I must tell you, there is far FAR more going on here than meets the "not so casual eye". With an inside link to the stalkers, I can assure you that things are about to heat up. You can't fool them with streaming video of our boy in the same clothes he wore to douse Fly yesterday, dancing around the Iwo Jima monument today. Now they can get your info as fast as you post it...

Posted by: Interested Observer | December 1, 2006 11:35 AM

006?
alright, it's interesting to see what people are learning or know about the neighborhood and various goings on.
Yeah the youtube with yesterday's clothes ain't no thang.

Posted by: Sway.... | December 1, 2006 12:42 PM

006 left a note on the empty house's door. Boba Fett, who I'm told came very, very close to disqualifying him self again by charging 006, may have stolen or trashed it.

Posted by: Casino Royale-with-cheese | December 1, 2006 03:28 PM

Remember, 006 was in the WRONG yard. If it had been the target aiming for his front door, he would have have gotten him. Not so careless, in that light. You can't win if you won't roll the dice. (Where was everyone else? Our erstwhile bogger admits to cuddling up to his tv to watch the Caps...)

Posted by: Interested Observer | December 1, 2006 03:42 PM

Roche just talked to Nick and announced that starting at 5pm today, Nick is allowed to go offensive, and if Nick soaks someone they're out, but whoever gets Nick still wins. Roche is a bit miffed that this is taking so long. Look out, guys!

Posted by: destini928 | December 1, 2006 04:02 PM

Damn need to drink/need to buy United gear/work. I have missed out and am only now catching up.

Interested Observer seems very confident that his man is about to strike. I have to ask, though...when? Next week? Is Nick Rimando just an unnatural talent at this, or did these 5 guys arrive here by just being slightly better than a group of people that had never done this before?

Dan, it seems your web of sources is the entire neighborhood, several DC players, the stalkers themselves, and several friends thereof. You could write a Dostoevsky-length piece on this.

Posted by: Chest Rockwell | December 1, 2006 04:18 PM

What happened to the coverage Dan?! Where are you?! We need updates! Is Nick still alvie?

Posted by: Johnny Z | December 1, 2006 04:42 PM

"Is Nick Rimando just an unnatural talent at this, or did these 5 guys arrive here by just being slightly better than a group of people that had never done this before?"

These 5 guys avoided attacks for a month, while also attacking their own targets. Granted, Nick has 5 attacking him at a time, but he knows who they are. The regular contestants had no idea. Having his property as a safe-zone is also a huge help (everyone else's yard/driveway were in play), as is having nothing else to do with his time (as opposed to most of the contestants, who don't get offseasons from their job). I'd also guess the true challenge comes in surviving once-the early adrenaline-rush expires, and you begin to let your guard down, and your friends/spouse get sick of the novelty of the game, so aren't as eager to help. It would've taken an act of complete idiocy for him to get shot in the first couple of days.

Posted by: Butt Van Gogh | December 1, 2006 04:56 PM

If you check out the DC101 page you will see a pattern. A quick strike is very dramatic, but not always possible. They have stacked the deck against the Warriors with making his entire house a safe zone, not to mention that now instead of one warrior there are many more. Any move one makes, they can all make. Unless they band together... & considering the time investment and the stakes, I don't see it.

Posted by: Interested Observer | December 1, 2006 05:07 PM

He also had very little to gain, though. Incubus tickets? Nick makes 6 figures and is an athlete in the offseason, he has the means and the time to get those easily (not to mention that Roche would have probably given him something anyway for participating). In the first couple of days getting eliminated would have come down to just not caring, rather than idiocy.

Also, no one made the stalkers reveal themselves to him. They all did it by choice. He knows who they are now because of their own actions. They dropped the ball.

And yes, I am rubbing it in because I am a DC fan and love to see all DC players succeed at whatever they happen to be doing. I hope Ben Olsen's marriage is the most marriaging marriage that ever marriaged.

Has anyone tried to cut him a deal? This game can be won through being the best negotiator just as easily as it can be won by who scouts locations the best or can chase people down the quickest. It's a pretty easy shot if your target agrees to stand still because you gave him, say, free food and drinks for a month at your bar.
