Bug the Bog: Wiz Pregame Music

Someone has apparently been encouraging local sports readers to send me their zany local sports questions. In recent days, I have received e-mails inquiring about producing commercials for Gilbert Arenas, taking bowling lessons from Gilbert Arenas, the chicken tenders at Verizon Center and whether they've been switched, the Wizards' pre-game music, college football arm bands, a U. of Maryland t-shirt once worn by Nik Caner-Medley, and, just today, the VC's big board during the Georgetown game, when it apparently had technical difficulties. Writes a reader:

After Saturday's Post reported Abe went to the City to ask for $50M to renovate, amongst other things, the telescreen at Verizon. Static on the screen the entire game on my side of the court.

Coincidence? I think not. Maybe Abe took the picture tube to Fenty's office to demonstrate that the telescreen was out of date and forgot to screw it back in.

Ha! Anyhow, being a faithful public servant, I will set in on this list. The bowling lessons query might be difficult, but this one, from Reader Lisa, seemed reasonable:

I love listening to hip-hop music to get me pumped for Wizards games and went to the Celtics game last weekend. I was trying to listen closely to the music they played during Wizards warm-ups so that I could download it and get it myself for my personal Wizards warm-up! I couldn't catch all the songs, let alone know their names. I was wondering if you knew how I could find out what songs the Wizards have been using in warm ups?

You're in luck, Reader Lisa! Ask Amy and Hints From Heloise have nothing on Bug the Bog. And remember, always stretch before undertaking your personal Wizards warm-up. Here's the list:

Jay-Z: Kingdom Come
Jay-Z: Dig A Hole
Nas featuring Jay-Z: Black Republican
Rich Boy featuring Polow Da Don: Throw Some Ds
Young Jeezy: Go Getta (song that plays as team comes out of locker room)
Young Jeezy: I Luv It
Jim Jones: We Fly High
DJ Unk: Walk It Out
Eminem featuring 50 Cent: You Don't Know
Fat Joe: Make it Rain remix

Anyone else want to Bug the Bog? Bring it on. Chicken tender research ongoing.

The symbiotic relationship of hip hop and bball continues to amaze me despite Stern, who once sold into the idea by marketing retro jerseys that were seen in rap videos and then got scared after the brawl and instituted the dress code. I'm surprised he hasn't mandated that all arenas play a feed from Mix 107.3.

I will say, that as a fan of hip hop (the kind that doesn't completely embarrass me but only half way) it is nice to go to a game and hear some nice tunes to get you ready for 48 minutes of no defense.

Anything but that "Bring 'Em Out" song they play at so many games when the team hits the field/court is cool with me. Overdone.

Dan, Yes the Chicken Tenders have in fact been switched at the Verizon Center. I first noticed the new tenders at the Caps/Florida game about 9 days ago.

Dan is Boggggggggin today huh?

Posted by: TheHype | January 29, 2007 12:28 PM

That's it, Jim Jones is over.

I can't even think about a Wiz game without Go Getta in my head on a loop.

Boggggginnnn'....dang...can't believe I didn't think of that. Nice!

Warm-up mix, this is nice and all, but what about the music they play at the end when we win???

Posted by: AV | January 29, 2007 12:45 PM

Sweet! Thank you so much for this list! :) You rock.

On a different note, does it bother anyone else that they play so much music during game play? I find it loud and annoying, and feel like it takes the crowd out of the game. What if we wanted to get some nice chanting going?

Unsilent, I had to do it man... I had to...

Posted by: TheHype | January 29, 2007 12:56 PM

lisa, download the radio edit version of some of those songs... ;-)

AV, the song at the end of games (the one that has the horns go along to a fast beat) is one that's been around for a bit. sounds like some baltimore house/club music.

i've gotten used to music at the games, to me its a part of the nba experience now. i would hate it during a college bball game, but it seems right for the nba. i love the zard's choice of music. i went to a celtic game a year or two ago in boston and was suprised (i shouldnt have been) to hear all pop music. now if only the zards would play some Wu....maybe some Rza

almost forgot, the song the wiz play when they win is the instrumental of "Down Bottom" off of Ruff Ryders Ryde or Die Volume 1. Amazon link (note it's explicit):

A note, I technically have no interest in any piece of clothing that was ever worn by Nik Canter-Medley, but more so of tshirts with NCM quotes on them (specifically the whole "I'm from Maryland, you can't beat me" one I saw it at a football game this fall). No if you were offering Steve Francis worn - tshirts...

This is REAL news! I LOVE the list. I LOVE you for caring and getting us the list. If you have any question for us fans, BRING IT ON!! (Like: ask us-WHAT are we going to wear to the Lakers' game? Are we going to dress like a birthday cake? What are we planning on chanting for Kobe? Oh, do ask! :D)

"On a different note, does it bother anyone else that they play so much music during game play? I find it loud and annoying, and feel like it takes the crowd out of the game."

Um, actually, yes, especially the corny organ music. They should at least turn it down a little. It's loud. Loud is OUR JOB!

Unsilent - Jim Jones was over even when that song was big. He's an unskilled cartoon character who fell over backwards into a hit. He and Skee-Lo will be featured guests on the Rap Cruise in 15 years.

"Go Getta" is blowing up everywhere. That's a ridiculous club track. I've already got it earmarked for the Screaming Eagle tailgate mix for the start of the '07 season.

Hey guys,

As a season ticket holder for a few years now, I've noticed some new things on the music end that the wiz kids are using. Does anyone know the names of these two songs?

1. The song played right after the national anthem? I see the players getting hype to this, it has the words "here we go" repeated over and over.

2. The song played when the visiting team comes out for warm up? Has anyone heard this song? It's hilarious!
