A Long Proud History of Georgetown Costumes
After yesterday's furor over costumed Georgetown fans, I got several supportive e-mails, including this one from Georgetown grad Meghan, which I felt was worth posting. Apparently, as the headline says, there is a long proud history of costumed Georgetown fans making merry. How she knows this, I'm not quite sure, but I'll assume it's all 100 percent factual based on her knowing tone. Meghan writes:
So about the bird/animal fetish. Little known Georgetown fact: At the Big East Tourney in 1981, two years after its inception in '79, decades before our heightened security, bag checks, and paranoia, a group of Georgetown ALUMS (not even current students!) made the trek up to the Syracuse Carrier Dome (the tourney rotated until it found its home at MSG) dressed as an Eagle, a Bear, and a Lion. The intention was to be the mascots of opposing teams, and mimic a fight scene where the bulldog won, but due to a limit on costume choice, and a lack of organization, it just turned into three random animals rushing the court at half-time to get everyone a little riled up, and then sending security on a wild goose chase around the stadium as they took off in every direction. They came to most games during the tourney, and made it back to the court on a few occasions. It was funny. The crowd loved it. These guys were most likely drunk, but what's so bad about that? They are totally respectable established people now - a former big wig from Wall Street, and two attorneys.
I think Big Denny has it right: why wouldn't you dress up as a parrot? In 30 years when Big Denny goes back to watch his Alma Mater, and he sees some drunk kid dressed as a bird of some sort, he'll be able to laugh to his friends that once upon a time, that was him.
This sounds like a movie to me. Or at least an Oscar-nominated short. Or maybe a commercial. Anyhow, if Big Denny and the Chicken and the Devil and the Angel show up at MSG dressed as an Eagle, a Bear, a Lion and a Parrot, I trust someone will be kind enough to send photos. Thanks.

People have dressed up as a Police Office (after Troy Murphy's DUI), a Lebrauchan being hung (didn't really work quite so well against ND) and a llama.
I have no explanation for the llama costume. But it was hilarious

This story looses all impact without the picture of that inebriated future master of the universe/Supreme Court Justice/U.S. Senator (Senator Blutarski?). Please restore it.
