Pops Mensah-Bonsu News
And there's so much of it. On Tuesday, the Mayor of Foggy Bottom was named to the NBDL all-star game, which will take place at Mandalay Bay the day before the NBA all-star game. Unlike the writer of that story, I might hesitate in calling it the "First Annual" NBDL all-star game, but it's a nice honor nonetheless. He was averaging 15.2 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 31.9 minutes for the Fort Worth Flyers. (And, btw, that's what Luke Schenscher and Sean Dockery have been up to. I once interviewed Schenscher's family about his hair. True story.)
Then, with DJ Mbenga done for the season, the Mavs called up Pops yesterday, and said they weren't looking for an outside addition:
Mensah-Bonsu was one of two rookie free agents, along with Jose Barea, to make the 15-man roster. For the time being, the Mavs aren't looking to sign a replacement for Mbenga.
"That's going to be it for now," [Prez of Basketball Ops Donnie] Nelson said. "We've put a lot of time and developmental effort into Pops and JJ [Barea], and if were going to sign somebody, we would release one of those guys. That's really not our first choice. This will be a nice opportunity to Pops."
The news didn't seem to make the Dallas Morning News's Mavs blog, although Dirk's MySpace MVP page sure did.
Anyhow, none of that really compares to the YouTube clips of Pops and family opening gifts, and, as seen below, dancing in Wal-Mart. And both were submitted before Mbenga's injury, so no, Pops isn't dancing simply because he gets to leave Fort Wayne.

Don't ask me why I follow the Fort Worth Flyers, but...
JJ Barea and Pops both have put up huge numbers with the Flyers. When they were both down there at the same time, it wasn't rare to see Barea far outproduce fellow Maverick and first-round pick Maurice Ager, and Pops with 16-18 rebounds. It's nice to see two overachieving underdogs produce and be good depth players for the Mavericks; they deserve to be there.
As for Luke Schenscher... he used to get ABUSED at Maryland home games. Sometimes the things that were said were so absurd that he couldn't do anything but laugh. Him and Jarrett Jack were lots of fun to watch.

God I miss the Mayor of Foggy Bottom aka King of the Whale Killers.
Hope he can get a few minutes of playing time on the Mavs during blowouts to show his game.
