What You Need to Know

It's Dre Blatche day. He admits the preseason hype "suped up" his head, or possibly "souped" up his head. Also, Eddie Jordan asks a high school team who their Gilbert Arenas is, and DeShawn Stevenson has stepped up his scoring with Jamison out. And in San Antonio, Pop and Parker are still butting heads, while American Idol contestants are tone-deaf.

Local No. 2 Virginia beats Local No. 5 Maryland again. Columnists: Rick Maese says the Terps need a telescope to see the NCAA tourney, Steve DeShazo says the programs are heading in opposite directions, and Jerry Ratcliffe says the Cavs have a swagger. The Terps have yet to win consecutive ACC games and were pummeled on the glass, D.J. Strawberry says their effort "didn't make any sense," Gary asks fans to "hang in there with us," and the Terps might need to go 5-2 down the stretch for a bid. Meanwhile the Cavs have turned their season around with their longest ACC winning streak since 1982, and J.R. Reynolds loves to hear the silence of the crowd. Local No. 1 Georgetown goes to Louisville on a huge day, facing an opponent that's getting healthy, and Patrick Ewing Jr. says he never expected to be like his dad. Seth Greenberg says the No. 3 Hokies are tired (and they won't get any more trans-fats), Local No. 7 ODU was the big CAA winner last week (and VCU-ODU is a sell-out), Jimmy Patsos of Local No. 9 Loyola compares playing at Marist to playing at Duke, and everyone seems pessimistic about the CAA getting two bids this season. Also, American loses, Liberty loses, Navy's thinking about the future, that restaurant manager says Todd Bozeman made an employee cry, and UDC is thriving with a former construction worker and a former postal worker. Also also, the Coppin State women have won 33 straight regular season MEAC games, and top recruit Marah Strickland explains why she picked Maryland.

In football, Rick Maese says the Internet-fueled signing day hype is "completely insane" and David Teel says it's "beyond warped." A new Maryland assistant will try to keep football talent in-state, Tom Lemming likes Maryland's class while other analysts describe it as nuts-and-bolts, and a writer looks back on the Logan-El fiasco.

After taking a late penalty Ovie says he had the worst game of his career and takes responsibility for the Caps' loss, which dropped them behind the Bruins in the standings. Glan Hanlon says this is "a test" for Ovie; in classic Boston fashion Phil Kessel is called "the Jonathan Papelbon of shootouts," and you'd think it'd be hard to confuse Milan Jurcina and Joe Thornton.

Jon Jansen re-ups with the 'Skins so he can finish his career in D.C., and says this sends a message about taking care of your own.

Tickets to see Becks at RFK are initially available only to DCU season ticket holders, here's a look at some marquee DCU games, and here's a look at Nick Rimando's dogs.

A telescope? Nah, all the Terps will need is a TV to see the NCAA Tourney.

Maryland are finished - barring a miracle in the ACC tourney. What's even worse... I don't think they'll be any good next year. They'll have 2 seniors who are good at running into people and missing layups (Osby and Gist) and a large cast of 1st and 2nd year players.

The recruiting class looks interesting, but not exactly 5 star. They'll have to contribute big time next season. Once again, shooting will be a problem.

Alright, thanks for finding a way to talk about Nick!
Gotta say though, a soccer guy with a dog named Marley? hmmmmmm, hope Nick allowed 30 days before his physical in Salt Lake!

they missed one of his dogs though! What about Boomer, the owner-ankle-twisting pit bull pup?

my favorite treat is flank steak too!

Glad to see Danny open the guts out of his wallet for Jansen.
