New Mystics Coach: Tree Rollins

Man. I thought Richie Adubato was going to be good for the Bog. But I never got a chance to hang out with him. And now he's gone.

Time to invest in throwback Tree threads.

And now Tree Rollins is the new coach. From the release:

Washington Mystics General Manager Linda Hargrove announced today that Head Coach Richie Adubato has resigned. Assistant Coach Tree Rollins will assume the position in the Interim.

"Richie felt that it was in his best interest to leave our team," said Hargrove. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors and look forward to our game tonight. We are confident in the leadership that Tree Rollins can provide along with the rest of our assistant coaches, Marynell Meadors and Crystal Robinson."

Rollins enters his second season with the Mystics. He has been an assistant coach in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers and the Orlando Magic. He was the head coach with the Greenville Groove of the National Basketball Developmental League. Most recently, Rollins held the job of President and General Manager of the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association (ABA).

By my count, he's the Mystics' ninth head coach in 10 years. Hopefully he won't bite any fingers.

Seriously, what a season so far, huh? The owner chews out the team in the locker room, a player retires to join the coaching staff, there's a major trade, and then the coach resigns. And we haven't even gotten to the next week's Mystics gala, featuring Cedric the Entertainer.

So, finally, a coach who can teach the team how to REBOUND.

Remember Charles Barkley? "Any knucklehead can score."

I remember a few years ago when the Aussie coach asked his team to be more fit and lose weight. They got pounded on the boards!

Not even Marianne Stanley could get the Mistakes to rebound! Can Wayne Rollins do it? Hell, his (posterior) is tall enough to do it!

If the Mystics' goal is to post the WNBA's worst record and thus boost their chances of drafting Crystal Langhorne from Maryland next spring, they're off to a solid start.
