Mystics Winning in OT

I have no jokes here. This is serious.

In their first nine seasons, the Washington Mystics played a total of 13 games that lasted beyond regulation, never more than three in one year. In the past two weeks--a span of just five games--the Mystics have ended regulation in a tie three times. Three OT games in two weeks!!!! And they've won all three!!!! It's a remarkable turn of events.

Also, this franchise's all-time regular-season record is 126-191, a winning percentage of .397. But its all-time record in overtime and multiple-overtime games is 11-5, a winning percentage of .688. Also remarkable. Virtually inexplicable.

Also, the Mystics started the year 0-8, and have since gone 10-5, which is, at a minimum, bizarre. I mean, this has the makings of the 2007 Warriors. Plus, the best player is named....Beard!!! Coincidence? I don't think so. But the biased WNBA.com staff still has the Stix just 10th (of 13) in the league power rankings.

Uh, hello? 10-5? Over their past 10 15, the second-ranked Indiana Fever is, hello, 9-6. And the Liberty, directly ahead of the Stix in the rankings, is, hello, 5-10. Yet another case of East-Coast bias. By the way, find me a blog post anywhere that has more WNBA statistical analysis than this one.
