Washington Misses Gooz
But first, some words from Jim Bowden.
"It's a serious situation," Bowden said of Jesus Colome. "We pray for his buttocks and his family."
The thing is, it actually is a serious situation, and yet it has generated possibly the best quote in sports history.
Anyhow, I have to go watch media persons fawn over Tiger again today, but in the meantime, chew on this.

In the first game of the season, Cristian Guzman was injured, and the Nats lost. Their record was thus 0-1.
Over their next 30 games, Guzman didn't play and the Nats went 9-21 and history seemed within reach.
But Gooz was a fixture over the next 44 games and the sun shined on RFK. When he played, the Nats were 22-20, and when he didn't, their winning percentage dipped and they were 1-1. Then Gooz got hurt again, and bloggers cursed the fates, and the Nats have since gone 1-6.
So, for MVP voters trying to keep track of the totals, here they are:
Nats with Cristian Guzman: 22-21 total record, completely average.
Nats w/o Cristian Guzman: 11-28 total record, magnificently horrible. (That's a 116-loss pace, btw.)
Find me a more valuable player in the major leagues, I dare you. Or in the entire decade, really. Meanwhile, the Nats now have the second-worst record in the league, and while historical immortality is long since gone, without Gooz they still have a chance to be respectably awful and maybe to surpass 100 losses or something.

But never mind all this, according to ESPN Orlando's signing of Rashard Lewis to a max contract will likely mean that they'll need to FREE DARKO!!! OK so he hasn't amounted to much, but he's gotta be better than Kwame, and he's a 7 footer available for the right price!
