Wiz Summer League Roster: Much Success!!!

The Wizards announced their summer league roster, and it's a veritable Bog gold mine. And bear in mind that I'll be in Vegas for probably three days, with hopes of eating Russian food with OPEC and Harvey Grant. Here's the roster

Shagari Alleyne
Brian Chase
Mike Hall
Jared Homan
Lee Humphrey
Dominic McGuire
Aaron Miles
Oleksiy Pecherov
Kevinn Pinkney
J.R. Pinnock
Leon Rodgers
Kyle Visser
Jameel Watkins
Nick Young
Derrick Zimmerman

Notables:

* Two George Washington Colonials from the 2005 team I covered that should have been in the Sweet 16 if the schedule had been merely "mildly wretched" instead of "putridly terrible." With me, Ivan Carter, Mike Hall and J.R. Pinnock, all we need is Karl Hobbs and SID Brad Bower and Vegas will feel just like the Smith Center. As long as the Wizards are playing the 2005 Terps or any MEAC school, they should absolutely roll.

* More local college players, like Brian Chase (Va. Tech) and Jameel Watkins (Georgetown).

* Lee Humphrey, who slayed George Mason in the 2005 Final Four.

* Kyle Visser, who lived much of the summer in Rosslyn and is a funny dude.

* Another Zimmerman. From Ryan Zimmerman to Jordan Zimmermann, D.C. has the pro Zims on absolute lockdown. And I'm pretty sure that none of them are Jewish. Remarkable.

nice roster, but you gotta be more excited about JCN. the pun possibilities are endless. la bomba is a pretty sweet nickname, but wiz fans are so excited about him how can we not call him "the chosen juan" ?

local american basketball club jokes make head asplode!

as a demon deacon i love to see viss on the roster. he's a great big guy who really came into his own senior year and works extremely hard at practice and in the weight room. i really think he has the offensive skills to make an NBA roster, and hopefully its the wiz's.

bryc3,

I'll be excited if his coming over is confirmed. Viva La Bomba!

Draft,Congressional & Vegas all in one Summer?have you hired an agent yet!

I forgot about Alleyne when he ditched Kentucky for Manhattan. I trust he's still terrifying small children.

Just remember. Signing La Bomba means adios to DeShawn

Posted by: Unsilent Majority | July 4, 2007 6:16 PM

deshawn leaving is bad for gil and his modeling agency and... who else?

Posted by: CreditZard | July 5, 2007 9:43 AM

Unsilent- is that a guarantee? Or will JCN command so much of the MLE to pay off his buyout?

Could the Wiz skirt salary cap issues by laundering cash through Gilbert? You know, have him pay Deshawn through biweekly shooting contests.

Posted by: DD | July 5, 2007 9:44 AM

There is no buyout, his contract is no more. There's just no way that they've got the room to sign Navarro to an NBA deal and re-sign DeShawn.

I'd definitely miss his perimeter defense and his energy. Remember, if DeShawn comes back it means we could actually see a lineup of numbers 0-1-2-3-4

Ivan seems to think it's possible to sign both DS and La Bomba ... just food for thought

Posted by: littles | July 5, 2007 11:55 AM

Hey littles....shut up!

Jaun is the answer we have been waiting for. He is the real deal and should not be traded unless we can get some serious value for him...not Posey. We can get a defensive 2 on the cheap before the season starts. Be patient with the free agents and see who is left, thats how we got Deshawn for under a million.

I feel that Leon Rodgers hasn't gotten the respect he deserves. He was one of the best inside - outside players in Europe last season. He can take contact and outrebound bigger players whilst always stepping up in moneytime and defending hard. Can shoot the three, but has ugly mechanics (nice fade-away though). Well coördinated with soft hands. A true leader (on the court not of).

His team beat Real Madrid (where Vlade divac is Techn. manager) last season and did so through Leon Rodgers. Check out some of his highlights on:
