Dmitri Young: Whoop-dee-whoo?
This week suddenly shapes up as a magical one for the Nats. Six straight wins, and now a trip to San Fran for an audience before national television viewers and bored national baseball writers. Barry Svrluga quoted Dmitri Young's reaction in today's paper as "Whoop-dee-doo," but watching the clip below, I'm inclined to think he said "Whoop-dee-whoo," which is a breezier, more rakish approach to the matter at hand.
Elsewhere, Svrluga quotes various players on what they might do if Bonds's 756th landed in their grasp.
"I'd keep it," first baseman Dmitri Young said. "And I'd double-dog dare a fan to come get it from me."
Double-dog dares and whoop dee whoos, in the same day?
As for the series, Thom Loverro says the Nats have been granted a national whoop dee whoo: "But even if one of these pitchers gives it up, he won't live in infamy. He will not be remembered as long as other pitchers who surrendered record-breaking home runs....Who will give up No. 756? Who will care?"
While The Nationals Enquirer is suggesting that John Lannan just go ahead and break Bonds's hand, so that at least he can be the star of a few more Facebook groups.
