Gilbert Locked Out of Canada

Brace yourself, for I'm about to become the first journalist in world history (I think) to compare Gilbert Arenas to Rod Dyachenko. Why? Well, both have been officially Banned From Canada. Rod's travails were well documented by the Soccer Insider, but Gilbert's disaster happened just this week. After the NBA and EA Sports had sent me approximately 14,000 e-mails about the incredible media opportunities presented by the motion-trapping session at EA in Vancouver, featuring Gilbert and a genuine Hibachi barbeque ....well, I'll let the Vancouver Sun take over.
NBA Live Summer Camp started badly. The centre of attention Wednesday was supposed to be Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, cover boy for NBA Live 08, but Arenas had misplaced his passport the day before and couldn't fly from Washington, D.C. Arenas, whom EA staff described as one of the most enthusiastic video gamers in the NBA, was also supposed to record a commercial for the game while here. Pierce did a voiceover for a commercial.
Centre? Anyhow, I'm guessing Gilbert misplaced his passport in the same way that Clinton Portis came down with acute knee tendonitis right before the preseason. Trust me, if Gil really wanted in to Canada, all he had to do was flash one of those AmEx black birthday party invites and the gates would have opened.
Also, the EA release promised this: "We are keeping it very much in the style you have come to expect from Gilbert Arenas." I feel confident that they delivered on this promise.

What's up with the fantasy RWC? I am ready to hope my somewhat random assemblage of players can beat everyone else's somewhat random assemblage of players.

Rod is no longer banned from Canada. He played at Toronto FC last weekend.

Not mentioned - Gilbert was still reeling from a loss to Steve Nash playing with the Arizona Cardinals on Madden 08' for X-Box 360.
