This Week's Oddsmakers' Top 25
While gambling is indeed evil, I just won $1 by betting a co-worker that Michigan would fall out of the Top 25 in both major polls today. The daughter gets diapers this week!
But Michigan was ranked by the Las Vegas Oddsmakers. As always, the Oddsmakers' Right and True Top 25 Poll will have 30 teams, which is just as well for a blog whose greatest career triumph was a Top 11 Local Basketball poll. Some notes from comparing this week's polls.
Biggest frauds, according to Vegas: Florida is ranked seven spots too high. Rutgers is ranked eight spots too high. Georgia is ranked 15 spots too high. Auburn is also severely overrated.
Biggest sleepers, according to Vegas: Nebraska is eight spots too low. Arizona State is 10 spots too low. Oregon is 11 spots too low. Michigan is 12 spots too low. Miami is 13 spots too low. South Carolina is 17 spots too low. (These were done before Florida State's loss, which presumably would have dropped the 'Noles.)
Vegas looked smart when: Overvalued Tennessee looked lots slower than undervalued Cal. Undervalued Georgia Tech rolled Notre Dame. Way undervalued Miami looked strong. Undervalued Louisville scored like a billion points.
Vegas looked dumb when: Undervalued Oklahoma State got crushed by overvalued Georgia. Plus, Michigan. Yeah.
Games to watch: Vegas likes South Carolina way more than Georgia; will the Gamecocks win in Athens this weekend against a team the dumb AP voters love? Vegas loves Miami while the AP voters aren't convinced; will the Hurricanes win at Oklahoma?

I just called CPS... To tell them that you're a great father. I feel like if we're going to be such debbie downers on people who beat their children we should at least recognize the great deeds of those that successfully pants their offspring. You make me hopeful for the future of this country, Dan Steinberg.
