Vegas's NFL Power Rankings
With my Redskins-loving friends now convinced that 10-6 is on the low end of possible results and that 13-3 is a real possibility, and with Charley Casserly jumping on board with Skins luv, it's time to again check in with Vegas and see where D.C. ranks on its list of NFL excellence. Well, not so great. 13th, behind such powerhouses as Baltimore and Chicago. The results will no doubt severely depress Joe Gibbs, who believes the Skins should be somewhere around 213th.
As always, these are the Las Vegas Sports Consultants rankings, that are used to help set initial betting lines. The idea is that Washington, on a neutral field, as of this moment, would be an underdog against Baltimore and Chicago, but would be favored against the Eagles and Giants. With 12 games left, it would appear that Washington will be favored in five (vs. AZ, at Jets, vs. Philly, vs. Buffalo, at Minnesota) and dogs in five (at GB, at NE, at Dallas, at Giants, vs. Dallas), with two too close to call (at TB, vs. Chicago). Sounds like 13-3 to me.
(Blatant homer Mister Irrelevant says stat geeks disagree with Vegas.)
Other power rankings: FoxSports says 11th, ESPN.com says 8th, NFL.com says 8th, CBSSports says 11th, Yahoo!!!!!! says 9th and NBCSports says 8th.

Only nerds care about so-called 'power-rankings'. It gives them somthing to talk/write about during the week. Clearly, the Redskins' power-ranking isn't going to be very high because look who they've beaten to date. Mark Maske knows his stuff but I'd rather see the Redskins as the worst 3-1 team (in his opinion, not mine) than being the best 1-3 team. I'd like to see power-rankings for sports columnists/ talk show hosts. I bet then we would be told how unimportant they are. The Washington Redskins are playing well and GETTING BETTER. That's what I - as a fan - am looking for. Last time I checked, they don't give out those shiny trophies of a football on top of a pedistal for some stupid power ranking.
Think about it. San Diego? Man, they just played their first good game of the year this past week. Baltimore? The fans there have "We Want Boller" stickers on their IROCs and are threatening to cut off their mullets if the Ravens keep trying to ride the washed-up McNair. Chicago? If not for Favre reverting to "Bad Brett", they'd be winless. Jacksonville? Sorry, I am too busy laughing to type anything. Cinci? I think Mark Brunnell could throw for 400 on them.
It is clear that the entities that tabulate these so-called power rankings are just going off the fantasy-like numbers for each team and not factoring in actual wins and losses, injuries and oh yeah, suspensions.
All that said, I am not lobbying for the 'Skins to be ranked higher in this fantasy poll, rather that the pollsters themselves do some actual research and not just plug in fantasy statistics which any 8 year old could do in 30-seconds.

You should add footballoutsiders.com to the rankings you consider. While there are other objective ratings that go by score and strength of schedule, they go by analyzing every play.
According to them, the Redskins are tenth. The problem is they've had an easy schedule and are about to embark on the most difficult schedule in the league for the rest of the year. Doing simulations of the rest of the season with the Football Outsiders rankings gives the Redskins a mean of 9.2 wins and a 52% shot of making the playoffs (5.9% to win the East).
