Jarvis Hayes Hates Us

(By Gary Malerba -- Associated Press)
Last month, you might remember, Gilbert Arenas said an unkind thing about Jarvis Hayes, and Jarvis suggested that being in Detroit's a lot better than being in D.C. Well, Jarvis seems to be winning this particular battle, taking more subtle shots at the Wiz along the way. And, believe it or not, these Jarvis Hayes shots are on-target.
First off, recall that Gilbert said Nick Young is a better offensive option than Jarvis Hayes right this minute. Stats please:
Jarvis: 23.3 minutes per game, 44 percent shooting, 9.7 ppg
Nick: 7 minutes per game, 25 percent shooting, 2.7 ppg
Maybe Nick's a better offensive option than Jarvis next year, or next month, or next week, but it doesn't look like he is right this minute. But with the Pistons 3-0 and the Wiz 0-3, Jarvis just so seems so gosh darned happy to be rid of us. Like in this Q&A:
QUESTION: What's the best thing about being on the Pistons?
ANSWER: "Shoot, what's not the best thing? From the team, the fans, just everything involved with the team and one goal, which is winning a championship."
Or in this story about his role as one of the Pistons' "go-to scorers" (??!?!?!??!), via True Hoop:
"We just recognize the mismatch," Hayes said. "There were plenty of times in D.C. where I had the mismatch, and we just didn't exploit [it]. Just didn't. It feels really good. And it's not only me. If Amir (Johnson) was in the game, and Tyronn Lue was guarding him, we would have gone to Amir. It's just the culture of being a team."
I'm sensing some implication that maybe the Wizards do not have the culture of being a team. Which would be sad.
And via Detroit Bad Boys, here's Joe Dumars talking about Jarvis:
"He fits who we are and how we play and how we go about our business. He's made a smooth transition as well with these guys. He just looks like he fits....Things just didn't unfold for him in Washington as I'm sure as he would have liked. But it never stopped us from liking him. You look at a guy and if it doesn't work out somewhere else, you look and say, 'He might fit here, though'. "
Well, I wonder what it'll feel like to regret the loss of a somewhat underwhelming player to Detroit, where that player suddenly becomes the opposite of underwhelming (whelming)? That ought to be fun to discover.

Jarvis Hayes career numbers (4+ seasons):
MPG: 25.4
PPG: 8.9
FG: 40.2%
3P: 34.3%
The Wizards gave him plenty of time, plenty of looks. It's not the knee; he couldn't ever shoot. He sucks.

Honestly, is anyone truly surprised that another Bullet/Wizard who did OK here went to Detroit and is now doing great? I liked Hayes, and it's too bad he never took advantage of the multiple opportunities he had here. Of course, if he could shoot like that when he was here, he'd still be here!

1. It's just sour grapes. He had opportunity and shot 40% from the field for his career.
2. He'll be injured by January 1.
The organization is far from perfect. They're so cheap it's embarassing. Carrying what 11 healthy players and refusing to sign anyone to replace Pecherov (out 6-8 weeks) or frickin Etan Thomas (out indefinitely) because they don't want to pay luxury tax on a minimum salary player. That's ridiculous and exactly the kind of thinking that made them a joke for so long. The players are better, the front office is better -- but the same cheap bastard is still controlling the purse strings and refuses to field a 12 man roster.

I'm happy Jarvis is doing well...Not. He and the rest of the Pistons can suck it!
That dude was given a pretty long leash, and had plenty of opportunities. Where was he when the big three went down? The same place he's been his entire career - bricking 15 - 18 footers from the wing. Bottom line, ge was a first round bust for the Wiz kids.

Jarvis is a good guy and I have a hard time disagreeing with him in all of this. Detroit is a better five-man team regardless of which five men they have on the floor largely because they play as a team and don't have to go through one person. They aren't going to other people out of necessity or to give games a new wrinkle. They go to guys because they can. That opens up the game and makes things easier for everybody involved. It was sad and disappointing watching Jarvis get injured every season and then have to work so hard to become himself again while fans insisted he had little to offer to begin with. I'm glad he is happy and having success in Detroit.

Well we tried, but you always missed the damn basket.

A healthy Jarvis is a nice fit in Detroit, which has a more traditional NBA offense and a more structured defense. Even healthy, Jarvis wasn't a good fit for the Wizards offense, which calls for some ball handling and quick decisions on the move. Quick decisions ain't exactly Jarvis' strong suit.

Arvis is clueless. How many times did he try to exploit a mismatch by shooting from long range and bricking big time? He's ridiculous. Couldn't hit a 3-pointer, couldn't hit a lay up. The guy had opportunities here, and he wasted them. EJ used him over and over and over again last year despite how badly he was playing, so if he thinks he wasn't given a fair shake, he's completely delusional. He'll get hurt at some point.

jarvis hayes = douchebag. he didn't get a chance to pan out here because: a) he couldn't hit a shot (which was supposed to be his specialty) and b) he didn't earn his pay check (b/c he missed like 900 games).
good riddance JH, ya a-hole.

He hardly deserves any of that, handleless poster.

You know, Jarvis Hayes was a gentlemen, and if he's making some comparative comments about being happier at the Pistons, I'm happy for him.
Fans liked him personally and we were sad -- and so was he -- that the ball kept not going in the basket.
TSW's post is spot-on.

Good post Nancy.

I'd like to question Fuj and Colin on calling Mr. Hayes "Arvis." Is this an oversight, or merely a reflection of the fact that Mr. Hayes has no "J," especially when he's more than six feet from the basket?

Jarvis Hayes is cool.....NOT!
He needs to quit with the bragging. He had too much opportunity if you ask me, when he was here in Washington and what did he do. Where was his shot in the play offs last year when Gil and Caron were down and he had all the minutes he could ask for?
Don't get me wrong, good for him that he is doing well with Detroit but he needs not forget what a bust he was when he was here.

Definitely not an oversight, definitely a reflection of his shooting ability. Definitely like Ason Kidd and Irk Nowitzki.

Is this guy serious? Arvis Hayes, badmouthing the Wiz. Unreal. The only mismatch he faced while he was here was his knee vs. health, and his knee certainly exploited that. I'm still not 100% convinced that it wasn't his twin brother putting his uniform on the last six months he was here. Just like until I see Cheryl and Reggie Miller in the same place at the same time, they're both the same person to me.
