Got an urgent phone call this afternoon to turn on Redskins Radio and listen to Larry Michael's media criticism. He apparently didn't 100 percent approve of the media's performance at yesterday's 36-minute media availability with Joe Gibbs. I turned in too late to hear the full media critique--and as I've said before, Larry's been nothing but kind to me and I have no problem with him critiquing me or my peers--but I did hear the beginning of the Joe Gibbs conversation. After a discussion of the Cowboys, Larry likened yesterday's press conference to undergoing a root canal. The audio files are not yet up, I think, but this was my hurried typed transcript.
LM: "The repetition of the questions to me was a little something. How do you go into one of those, especially after a tough loss, knowing what you have to deal with?"
JG: "I think right now, we're totally fixed each and every week on our time management. We're gonna pound that thing until it dies....Everybody, rightly so, was saying, 'How did we run out of timeouts?'....Could you say you shouldn't have [run out]? Yeah, you could have, but my point was if you take 32 coaches in the league, there'd probably be a lot of them that would have done pretty much what we did. I just think it's one of those things you've got to deal with....It was really about 18 inches, was what that game was. Two shots, 18 inches. Had we got one of those in than the game would have been over. We didn't, they came back and made a great play."
Later, Bram Weinstein pointed out how after the Green Bay game, the players took most of the heat, but how after this game the heat seemed directed at the coaching staff. Gibbs's response, in part, edited not out of maliciousness but out of the speed with which I could type:
"Every time I make a call, to be truthful, I'm holding my breath, because every time I made a call I could have made another call," he said. "You can run, you can pass. I could make the decision to go for a field goal...or I could choose to gamble and go for it....I know that I'm going to make a lot of decisions when a game starts. I always just pray that I make the right one."

I think I have to side with Larry. Give the old man a break. The game did not come down to TIME OUTS!!!!! We could have had 8 time outs, it still would not have made Jason Campbell complete a pass on the last two drives to win the game. We couldn't get a first down. Time outs do not give you a FIRST DOWN.. If Sean Taylor did not get hurt he would have intercepted the long bomb that Persion dreadfully over played. But that happens. They lost.

Larry Michael (and his talentless sidekick) is just counting the days until Mr. Snyder buys the post and fixes things the way they should be. You know...with no dissent whatsoever despite having blown numerous opportunities to win the game. From within the 5 yard line. Again.
