Unreal. A Fire Joe Gibbs Site

Can we challenge this post? (By John McDonnell -- The Washington Post)
Really, I never ever ever ever ever ever ever thought this day would come. Tom Boswell's parents are now doing triple lutzes in their graves. But go to Fire Joe Gibbs Now, if you dare.
The site seems to be designed more as a clearinghouse for feedback rather than an advocacy deal, but still, you get slammed with this text on the front:
Well Skins fans, sometimes it's better to take hold of our destiny and damn the torpedoes, than it is to wallow in the misery of knowing that a once great icon of the gridiron has seen the game go by him. Here we are at 5-4 this season and we all know that the coaching staff has done little more with the team than last season, (5-11). Let's just burn the team to the ground and start over. Let's call for Dan Snyder to man up and look ahead to next season. In order to do that, he has to: FIRE JOE GIBBS NOW!
That deranged person will sure feel silly when I send him a postcard from Glendale. Right? Hard-fought? All in this together? Right? In all seriousness, this team is perhaps one game behind where we thought they'd be at this point; we all figured they'd lose at GB, NE and Philly, which would have left them no better than 6-3 right now. Still, it would appear that maybe we are not, in fact, all in this together.

Dude what we really need is firedansnyder.net or SellTheSkinsAndBuyAPonyOrSomethingDan.info or like BoycottJohnnyRocketsUntilWeHaveAGM.org.

You know they're serious, too, on account of how well-designed the site is.

I was listening to Don and Mike yesterday and I think they started this website ....

I guess that I will have to take a stand for Joe Gibbs, since it has become trendy in DC to dump on him and blame him for the teams activities.
Has any other coach produced anything other than spectacular mediocrity while working for Dan Snyder? No, so why is this regime any different?
Has any other coach under Snyder tried to blow rose colored smoke up our backsides while still collecting a massive paycheck? Of course! Have you so soon forgotten the great Norv Turner and Steve Spurrier press conferences.
Did anyone not believe that Joe Gibbs wasn't a marketing scam by Dan Snyder to keep people interested and dumping money into the team? If you didn't see this than that is your own fault for believing that Gibbs would bring the Redskin nation any type of glory, not his.
Joe Gibbs has done a tremendous job as an employee. He has done his job better than any of us. He has conned the Redskin fans into going to games and buying Redskin gear. He has kept investors spending money on the team. He has kept the media at bay and off Snyder's back. He has garnered respect from most of the players. Joe Gibbs has done his job perfectly in his supervisors eyes. He was not hired to win games per se, he was hired to be the "face" of the organization and perform the functions I stated earlier in this paragraph. Winning in business carries a different definition than winning in sports.
Through all of the coaches, coordinators, QB's, RB's, WR's, and assorted defensive "superstars", this team under the Dan Snyder regime has never produced anything other than a supremely gutless, underachieving, mediocre spectacle. Why would any of you people think it would be any different with Joe Gibbs?

Coach Gibbs made this Franchise. If it wasn't for Gibbs we would be like the Eagles, a sorry ass team with no Superbowl wins. Gibbs deserves to walk away from this team on his own terms and to even insinuate firing him is ludacris. He didn't have to come back and coach again but he wanted to for the fans and for the franchise. He may not be the same man he was 16 years ago but he is a winner and his players will fight for him. If you don't believe me read Mike Wise's article from today http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/12/AR2007111201961.html
Please turn in your Fan card and go root for Baltimore. We are 5-4 and still in the Playoff hunt and I will be cherring for the Skins and Coach until the day I die

I hate the franchise, but as a native of the area, I do respect Joe's legacy.
With that being said, it's hard firing a legend without backlash. Ask fans of Penn State or Florida State.

I have to agree with the previous poster. Joe Gibbs isn't the problem, the money grubbing owner is the real problem.
Posted by: OKCSkinsFan | November 13, 2007 3:24 PM
How the hell is Dan Snyder the problem? Did he get conservative at the goal line? Did he get a flag thrown on him? Did he drop a pass, miss a block, or do anything but give this sorry ass coaching staff everything they want? this blaming Snyder thing is getting real old fast. Do you really think Gibbs would allow for Snyder to demand him to hire Saunders? Gibbs RECRUITED Saunders remember? Gibbs also went after Greg Williams and identified the players he felt would help them win. The only fault I put on Snyder is not hiring a GM. And in case you missed it, several teams (Panthers, Falcons, and a slew of others) were trying to lure Gibbs out of retirement. This team is porrly run from a philisophical stand point from a draw on 3rd and goal from the 8 yard line to a cover 2 defense with the safties 30 yards deep! Snyder gives his coaching staff whatever they want. Its up to the staff to produce on the feild not the owner.

Dude, reality check, you're not from DC, are you? Who do you trust with your football team, the guy who won three super bowls or the guy who just bought new years rockin eve?
Posted by: Derek | November 13, 2007 5:07 PM
The Redskins need to keep Joe Gibbs. He has done a great job with a middle of the road franchise. Unless there is a strike shortened season in the future the franchise is not going win (2 of the Super Bowls were tainted by shortened seasons). Redskin fan don't be mad this Sunday when you get beat down patriots style. It all has to do with the fact that you will always be pathetic losers.

Yeah, you have to be a special kind of stupid to think Washington will score a lot against Dallas.
Joe Gibbs was a great coach, but his biggest problems now are clock and salary-cap management. During his first go-round, he didn't have to worry about a cap and could sign whomever he wanted. And the whole challenges system wasn't around then, either; how often have you seen him waste a challenge or use up all of his time outs early in the fourth? I've even read that although Washington employs a "replay consultant," Gibbs and his coaches routinely ignore what this consultant recommends.

Definately a Don and Mike site. In case you missed it, it's at the very top of the page.
Posted by: Steve O | November 16, 2007 10:08 AM
The first step in curing addition is to admit there is a problem. Joe Gibbs is past his prime. He was once great but you are only as good as your last season and the previous three have all been losers. Has anyone heard from Dan Snyder since Gibbs came to town? The answer is NO. Snyder is not the problem. Those of you who want to blame Snyder are delusional. The only thing Dan Snyder now does of Joe is write big checks so Joe can fill the coaching staff with his sons and other family. The Skins suck once again.

A special kind of stupid is thinking Joe Gibbs should be fired.
Congrats Cowgirl fans on a good win. The NFC east championship is yours. Don't be too depressed when your one and done in the play-offs.

Come on, it's a running gag goof of the Don & Mike show. But behind the stupid joke is some truth...how many more years can the DC metro keep being happy with 'moral' victories by 'redskin guys'?
Posted by: bob | November 20, 2007 11:15 AM
this is a joke from the don n mike radio show...but don is a season tix holder and is unhappy with snyder as we all are. please reference si.com and their ratings of the best/worst fan experiences in teh nfl. good ole fed ex is 28 out of 32. thanks, snyder.

fire Gibbs and fire Campbell..he can't play. Two consecutive idiotic decisions when the game was on the line....Brunell would do better.

Well, there's another site as well. Seems to be indicative of Joe's poor job as a coach.

Joe gibbs needs to be fired after this season.
Posted by: skins fan | December 3, 2007 11:16 AM
I have defended Joe Gibbs to the end...but my heart is pretty heavy right now. I think the second time out situation really did it for a lot of us. I would be curious to see if he wanted to come back...he gave it four years. The WR don't need to bring in another new coach! They need to use someone within their own organization...especially after the death of Sean Taylor...it is just too much to think a NEW coach is the answer. They guys need consistency right now and next year (Clinton Portis...if you read this...PLEASE STAY!!!). We love you man!!
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!
