DeShawn Stevenson's Father
Heavens knows I've posted plenty about DeShawn Stevenson in this space, usually about his hand gestures and his nicknames and his back tattoo (which now includes a huge numeral "2" in addition to his name, although it's not completely done yet) and other such trifles. But I have to say I didn't really know anything about his father, nor did I know that his first name is evidently Darryl.
Apologies if this is common knowledge, but apparently his father was a promising basketball prospect at the same high school DeShawn eventually attended, but he struggled with violence, was eventually diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, wound up murdering his own mother and then died in prison.
Seriously, this is not for laughs, but it's kind of a wild story if you've got a minute.

It seems as though alot of these NBA & NFL players have disfunctional passes. Such as Gilbert Arenas and Vince Young.

I'm with you ab. What a sad and tragic story to read about right before the holidays. Now I'm depressed.

And yet, they seem to be a pretty stand-up group of guys. Eccentric? Sure. Insane? Quite possiblt. But good people regardless of their pasts.
