Redskins Add Another SI Cover

The most important part of the Jason Fife practice squad signing? D.C. now has another SI Cover Boy. Yes, practice squad players count. Yes, the headline on this item is misleading. Yes, Oregon's uniforms still make me want to vomit.
Fife was the cover boy on one of the most infamous SI Cover Jinx stories of all time. Oregon was 4-0 and ranked 10th in the country, made the SI cover (Sept. 19, 2003), then lost three straight, starting off with 55-16 to Washington State at home.
More importantly, Fife's signing comes less than 24 hours after the Nats added a Cover Boy of their own in Paul Lo Duca, who made the July 17, 2006 front. Two Cover Boys from two different sports in two days? Has that ever been done before in world history? That's amazing. Pun only marginally intended, and I'm ashamed for the margin.
After the jump comes the rest of our current-D.C.-connection Cover Persons. And no, Aaron F'in Boone did not make the cover in the fall 2003, but that truly would have been trippy.

Starting with, of course,
Roy Hibbert, Nov. 16, 2007

And also, Roy Hibbert/Jonathan Wallace, Nov. 20, 2006

Clinton Portis, January 7, 2002.

Chris Samuels, Dec. 3, 2001

Mark Brunell, Jan. 13, 1997
And really, find me another NFL team whose third and fourth QB's were SI Cover Boys.

John Thompson, Nov. 26, 1984
I guess radio shows count.

John Riggins, Dec. 19, 1983
We're really well-represented in the radio show category.

Not included but also appearing in this century: Freddy Adu, Frank Robinson, Lamar Butler, Michael Jordan, Juan Dixon, Cal Ripken. Lemme know if I missed any.

My girlfriend is a Portland native and a former Duck. She told me what Fife's nickname was while he was in college:
"F*cking Interception F*cking Everytime"
I hope he stays on the practice squad.

I think Daryl Grant was on the cover spiking the ball in the end zone after the Redskins beat the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game in Jan. 1983.

Earnie Stewart (US National Team, and DC United) was on the July 4, 1994 cover.
Bobby Convey (US National Team, DC United, and Reading FC) was on the June 5, 2006 cover.
Mia Hamm was on the September 22, 2003 cover.

Just found a GREAT double header:
Current Wizards GM, Ernie Grunfeld and former Bullet great, Bernard King, in their Tennesee Volunteer skivvies, are the SI cover boys from February 9, 1976 (Volume 44, Issue 6), entitled, "Double Trouble from Tennessee".

Oh, and let's not forgot the Washington Post's own, Michael Wilbon was on the May 5, 2003 cover, entitled, "The 101 Most Influential Minorities in Sports".

Also, Redskins great Doug Williams checks in on the same cover as Wilbon, though he's not active in DC right now.

Current Redskin's safety, Laron Landry was on the cover of SI's 2006 College Football Preview.
