Redskins Add Another SI Cover
The most important part of the Jason Fife practice squad signing? D.C. now has another SI Cover Boy. Yes, practice squad players count. Yes, the headline on this item is misleading. Yes, Oregon's uniforms still make me want to vomit.
Fife was the cover boy on one of the most infamous SI Cover Jinx stories of all time. Oregon was 4-0 and ranked 10th in the country, made the SI cover (Sept. 19, 2003), then lost three straight, starting off with 55-16 to Washington State at home.
More importantly, Fife's signing comes less than 24 hours after the Nats added a Cover Boy of their own in Paul Lo Duca, who made the July 17, 2006 front. Two Cover Boys from two different sports in two days? Has that ever been done before in world history? That's amazing. Pun only marginally intended, and I'm ashamed for the margin.

My girlfriend is a Portland native and a former Duck. She told me what Fife's nickname was while he was in college:
"F*cking Interception F*cking Everytime"
I hope he stays on the practice squad.

I think Daryl Grant was on the cover spiking the ball in the end zone after the Redskins beat the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game in Jan. 1983.

Just found a GREAT double header:
Current Wizards GM, Ernie Grunfeld and former Bullet great, Bernard King, in their Tennesee Volunteer skivvies, are the SI cover boys from February 9, 1976 (Volume 44, Issue 6), entitled, "Double Trouble from Tennessee".

Oh, and let's not forgot the Washington Post's own, Michael Wilbon was on the May 5, 2003 cover, entitled, "The 101 Most Influential Minorities in Sports".
