Today is Abe Pollin Day
Adrian Fenty said so. Cake for everyone! From the official press release [the proclamation has too many whereas clauses to be feasibly excerpted]:
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty proclaimed December 3, 2007 "Abe Pollin Day" in the District of Columbia in honor of Abe Pollin's 84th birthday and all of his contributions to the city. Pollin is the chairman of Washington Sports & Entertainment which owns Verizon Center and the Washington Wizards. Fenty was joined by Members of the Council of the District of Columbia and the Office Majority Leader Steny Hoyer in recognizing Pollin. In addition to proclaiming Abe Pollin Day, the Mayor unveiled F Street between 6th and 7th Streets NW, as Abe Pollin Way. The name will officially change after the DC Council passes legislation.
This poses a real challenge for Wash Times columnist Tom Knott, who has made a career out of calling that stretch of F Street "Fun Street." I look forward to him now changing that to APW. I don't really have anything else to say about this, so instead you can watch O. Pecherov at a Reading Time Out, wherein he describes some Gaithersburg kids thusly: "zey read so nice."

Hats off to Mr. Pollin. The cakes (TWO!) set up outside the Johnny Walker lounge for the Verizon Center's 10th anniversary were delicious!

As a DC United fan I'm not sure if I should go with "hmmm" or "interesting."
As a DC area sports fan, congratulations to Mr Pollin.

Of course Fenty loves Pollin. Pollin's arena didn't cost the city a dime to build, unlike the baseball stadium.
