Todd Collins Sniffs Footballs

Whilst I was obsessing over Smack yesterday, the rest of the reporters were hot on the trail of just what Todd Collins has been sniffing. And, of course, Joe Gibbs was smoking crack somewhere.

Ok, the last sentence is not true, but combined with the news that Paul Lo Duca's girlfriend is releasing an album called "The Addiction" it was a pretty drugged-out day. The best Collins-sniffs-things item I found was on the Wash Times blog, which quoted Casey Rabach thus:

"Todd's a real good guy, but there are a few quirks about him," center Casey Rabach said of Collins, whom he calls 'Rain Man.' "Todd sniff everything. He sniffs the football. He sniff his hands a lot, smells papers. He's a kind of a goofy guy."

Smells papers? Like, 8.5 by 11 papers, or newspapers, or rolling papers, or what?

And luckily, the AP got into the act by writing one of the best sentences in modern American sports journalism: "Does he really sniff the balls?" No, I'm not joking. The answer?

"I like to sometimes smell the football before I get going," Collins said, somewhat begrudgingly. "Just love the game, you know. You've got to love the football."

And others noted Collins's sense of humor. Like this quote, from Randle El:

"He has a way of making you laugh when he's not really trying to make you laugh, but you think he is. We'll have a sign that says there's an 8:30 meeting and he'll say, 'What time is the 8:30 meeting?' "

Combine all this with his blog, and it should be a fun three weeks.

'What time is the 8:30 meeting?'

Let's hope that doesn't this weekend this doesn't equate to, "Why is Michael Strahan like two feet away from me?"

Listen, if you don't think Collins' next outing will be hard fought because he sniffs balls...
