Bill Belichick Hates HTTR

Hail baby, hail.

Do you like the Redskins? Are you an American? Do you consider yourself generally opposed to evil?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you likely already find yourself predisposed to be leery of Bill Belichick. But just in case you need another reason, here's a clip from his press conference yesterday, courtesy of the Hartford Courant:

One thing Belichick won't have to contend with Sunday is the "San Diego Super Chargers" fight song.

"I hate that song," Belichick said. "First time I heard that song was when I was with the Giants. We played out there, and they had [Wes] Chandler, [Chuck] Muncie, [Kellen] Winslow, [John] Jefferson, [Dan] Fouts, and it was a track meet. They didn't get through playing that song before they had scored again. And they started playing it again.

"That 'San Diego Super Chargers' ... that's still ringing in my head. I don't like to hear that song. And I don't like to hear 'Hail to the Redskins' either. When those songs play, it means it's not going good for us. That song has never been music to my ears."

Sure, it's generally bad to hear the fight song of any opposing team, but why single out HTTR? Is he making a political statement, a la Mike Wise? Is it some vestige of his Anne Arundel upbringing, some ancient Baltimore-D.C. rivalry thing? Is that why he ran the score up this year? Or is he just trying to bait Joe Gibbs, his coaching antithesis?

Either way, if you weren't already rooting for the Chargers....

He hates it because of what it means in the GAME, not what it means to Washington fans. You must have been pretty desperate for something to blog this time.

Belichick is the devil.

Should I admit that I have "San Diego Super Chargers" on my iPod? No, I probably shouldn't.

Normally I'd say that's a stretch and that he just hates it because things aren't going well for his team, but since it's Belichick, I'll use it as one more reason not to like him. I somehow feel more complete now.

I think you don't understand what the phrase "singled out" means. He couldn't of singled out HTTR since Bellichick first said he hates the Chargers song. So HTTR got "seconded out" if you will.

And the first poster was on point, he hates the songs because of what he said, it means things are going poorly for his team (especially from when he was with the Giants and the team played the Redskins twice a year).

Wow, Chris and Ronny. Way to take things so seriously. Did you not see the humor in the post?

What about the old Houston Oilers fight song? That was one to hate. "Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers number one..."

Go Pack Go!!!!!
That's what I'll be chanting for the rest of the Playoffs since I can't stand the Giants, Patriots or Norv Turner.

What a ridiculous over reaction to a comment. Coach Belichick explained very well actually why he doesn't like when those songs are played. ANOTHER Washington media idiot taking things out of context.

Does anyone else agree with Wise that they should change the name "Redskins"?

Posted by: Bret | January 21, 2008 4:49 PM

Wise is a horse's rear end. Political correctness is going to destroy this country.
