Steve Spagnuolo's Wife
When the talk turned to Steve Spagnuolo at our pre-Super-Bowl dinner, featuring the sports staff of the Newark Star-Ledger plus two WaPo interlopers, the talk quickly turned instead to Steve Spagnuolo's wife. The Newark Star-Ledger loves Steve Spagnuolo's hair-cutting, trash-talking, food-making, men-attracting wife, so much so that a staffer went to get a haircut from her pre-Super Bowl. You should read the resulting story, but I'll just borrow one passage.
And then I mentioned the New England Patriots.
"Ow!" the clipper digs into my scalp.
"You know, when they played them the first time, Steve was getting text messages from some of his friends who are Patriots fans," she says. "They told him, 'Go easy on Tom Brady. We need him for the Super Bowl.' Can you imagine that? I told Steve what I thought they should do to Brady.
"So, Steve goes into the defensive meeting that week and says, 'My wife is not a violent person, she doesn't have a mean bone in her body, but she says we should kick Tom Brady in his ...'"
Ok, Mr. Spagnuolo, you're hired, see you later in the week, please bring your wife to the press conference, thanks.
