The Maxim Party

This isn't from last night. Although every non-celebrity in the crowd was taking photos of Akon.
So yeah, I got into the Maxim Party, which is supposed to be the apex of Super Bowl cool. I have definitely never ever stood around a posh hotel swimming pool with so many famous people. It was overwhelming. Two people walked by and someone said they were from "The Hills" but there were too many other famous people for me even to worry about lowly "The Hills" actors.
Here's a very partial list: T.O., Steve Young, Ian Ziering, Anthony Michael Hall, McLovin, Chuck Lidell, Evander Holyfield, Cindy Crawford, Terrell Davis, Vernon Davis, Carson Palmer, Michael Clarke Duncan, Steve Nash, Raja Bell, Shawn Marion, Mario Lopez, Reggie Bush, Josh Duhamel, Keyshawn Johnson, Jason Whitlock, Jay Glazer, Rick Fox, Warren Moon, Ryan Seacrest and Diddy. Plus performances by Akon and T-Pain. Akon asked the crowd whether they were rooting for the Giants, Patriots or Konvicts. (Also, apparently, Tom Petty, John Elway, Larry David, Rob Schneider and Kim Kardashian.)
UnderArmour was giving away its first non-cleat shoes to celebrities. Perry Ellis was giving away its new fragrance, PE18. The organizers were giving away talking "Snakes on a Plane" pens, talking "40 Year Old Virgin" action figures and Kama Sutra massage lotion. The bartenders were serving Patron beverages, including the Maxim Margarita and the Cool Breeze featuring Patron Silver and soda served over ice with a splash of grapefruit juice.
The Suns left early; they had practice or something today. Rick Fox was being swarmed by women seeking photos. There were Maxim-type models everywhere, dancing in an official capacity of some sort. Oh, and on my way out, I trailed a tinted SUV with an electronic message: "Let us take you to the hotest [sic] parties in Scottsdale."

You don't know how relieved we are that Akon didn't pick you up and toss you off of a stage and into a crowd.

I would have thought Belichick would have been at the Maxim party.

So judging by those giveaways, it seems like somebody cleaned out a Spensers Gifts.

Having seen Dan in person, I was more concerned about Akon grinding with him on stage.
I kid.

Hunh, so it's all about brand names. These parties don't sound nearly as interesting as their invitations. Tom Petty would have been neat to run into though. He strikes me as the kind of guy who would be really neat to talk to for a while.

who the hell gave Mario Lopez a ticket?
amazing that you of all bloggers could find so little worthwhile to report from the supposed apex of the week. i guess it's another nail in the coffin for Super Bowl Week as anything except a bloated, botoxed, washed-up waste of time.
