GW and Virginia Earn Last-Second Wins
GW wins, Cal loses. (AP Photo)
As long as we're still writing under the "your blogging home for postseason college hoops" logo, might as well mention two entirely dramatic last-minute college hoops victories for local squads.
First the GW women, and I have to say that as amazing as the Colonials' last-second win was, it was dwarfed in my mind after I visited the GW message board, hoping to read post-game reaction, and instead became drawn into an unrelated identity crisis. Over the past year, two argumentative GW fans--one pro-athletic department and one a constant critic--had nearly ruined the board with a series of increasingly caustic disagreements, and now it turns out that the two people ARE ONE AND THE SAME. Seriously, this is way beyond Psycho. I literally had trouble sleeping last night.
Anyhow, the GW women rated a headline on The Daily Fix after their last-second airball put-back gave them an upset over third-seeded Cal in Northern California. GW had been down seven with four minutes left, and down four with two minutes left. Video highlights here. The Cal coach said the loss was based on a missed call, while GW Coach Joe McKeown called it "one of the great games in GW history." The Colonials move on to face Rutgers in Greensboro.
Meantime, the Virginia men, striving to become the first team in world history to claim a CBI championship, also got a miracle last-second win when Sean Singletary went for eight points in 25 seconds. A columnist called it one of the most dramatic moments in Cavaliers history, while another writer compared him to Bruce Springsteen.
Virginia will host Bradley in the CBI semis tomorrow night, and is now three wins away from a postseason title. (Yeah, three wins. Don't ask.) So is Virginia Tech, which advanced to the NIT quarterfinals. A win against Ole Miss tomorrow night, and the Hokies are headed to MSG. We could still wind up with three local college basketball champions, and the Cavs and Hokies are at least making the Atlantic 11 March Challenge interesting.

That brief mention of VT was still longer than the four-letter networks highlights. Ole Miss tomorrow night should be another fun night in Blacksburg. These NIT games(and general admission) have really brought a new energy to VT hoops that hasn't been around for at least a decade.

Hail to the Buff!
But I'm not sure I believe Blue Seats and Mailvan are the same person though, I think they're both not so good with the internets so they use AOL, which would give them the same IP. Who knows though. They are a source of endless hilarity/frustration.
