Hokies: What to Know

Four Things to know as Virginia Tech tips off with Miami:

-The Hokies, after wearing black sneakers for the entire season, have switched to some snazzy white and maroon kicks. I like.

-A.D. Vassallo shaved his goatee and carved a fresh "PR" into the back of his head, complete with a star.

-Jack McClinton never misses a shot. Just ask him. "When I miss a shot, I forget about it," McClinton said yesterday after missing four or his six shots in Miami's win over corpse-like North Carolina State. "So today was great. I made all my shots."

-Miami Coach Frank Haith loves professional wrestling. "Growing up in North Carolina, you got too, man," he said. I discovered Haith's love of wrestling when he mentioned that McClinton was like Lex Luger because he's "The Total Package." Haith listed Jimmy Snuka and Ric Flair among his favorite wrestlers. When I mentioned that we are, indeed, in Mecklenburg County, Haith laughed and said, "There you go." Needless to say, I really like Frank Haith.

Tech scored first to go up, 2-0, one possession into the game. More updates to come.

Shoe changes weren't good things the past two seasons. I'm glad it paid off this time.
