Hoyas Scene in Raleigh
By Camille Powell, in Raleigh
The role of villain here in Raleigh will now be played by Georgetown. The Hoyas fully expected to get booed here--on Selection Sunday, Jessie Sapp pointed out that "We're going to be in North Carolina, we beat North Carolina so obviously the whole crowd is going to be against us"--and the fans didn't disappoint: the cheers for Davidson's exciting win over Gonzaga quickly turned into boos when Georgetown emerged for warm-ups.
Roy Hibbert got the most boos during introductions. But cheers from the Georgetown fans in the stands--who are harder to spot than UMBC's gold-clad supporters--could definitely be heard.
It'll be hard to surpass the emotion and excitement of the Davidson game. The noise inside the RBC Center was deafening as the Wildcats put away Gonzaga. Davidson's band plays a mean version of Sweet Caroline, to which the fans stand and sing along. They kept singing, even after the band stopped playing--and Gonzaga's Jeremy Pargo stepped to the free throw line.

Seriously, Hoya fans should be booing Roy Hibbert all the way home to Georgetown. The man goes 13pts/ 7rebs vs UMBC (impressive, I know), and 6pts/ 1reb against Davidson (to go along with 3 TOs)? Davidson doesn't even have a guy over 6-8! This guy is 7 ft 2 inches tall right?
