Ovechkin Lands Hair Cuttery Endorsement

The hair cut that launched an ad campaign.

Not college basketball, but definitely March Madness. From the release:

Vienna, VA - Hair Cuttery, the largest privately-owned chain of hair salons in the country, announced today that it has signed NHL Washington Capitals' hockey star Alex Ovechkin to a 6-month partnership agreement commencing in October.

Ovechkin proves that even if you're a multimillionaire, you can still appreciate a good haircut at a great price. After signing a 13 year, $124M contract - the richest in NHL history - the 22-year-old Washington Capitals' left wing is still a regular client at the Ballston Common Hair Cuttery in Arlington, Virginia. The salon is located in the mall underneath the Kettler Capitals Iceplex where the team practices and, since he never needs an appointment, Ovechkin stops in for a haircut whenever it is convenient for him....

When we learned that Alex is a regular Hair Cuttery client, we knew he would be perfect for our new advertising campaign," said Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. "Alex certainly has some extra change in his pocket these days, and at Hair Cuttery, all our clients can get a great style and keep a little extra for themselves."

Amazing. Still waiting for Gilbert to sign up with Corona, and for DeShawn to sign up with Capri Sun, and for Doc Nix to sign up with the Emperor's Club.

"Trust Fund Babies"??? Is this a local band? Google gives me a Nieman-Marcus item page, but beyond that I confess that I'm sadly lacking in my cultural references...

Did you get a 10% commission for brokering the deal?

OFB has the story, too.

That's hilarious.

So the spokesperson for hair cuttery is a guy who is only seen by the public while wearing a helmet.

He's cut his hair what, once this entire year?!?

Heheheh. Totally not suprised. Hopefully they can improve his haircut a little to. the mop look isn't very flattering.

He just needs an endorsement from Wal-Mart to start greeting people at the door.

Sweet. The lady who cuts my hair also does Ovy's. Not too shabby.

@DudeAbides,

The press release is from Vienna, Va because it was released by the Hair Cuttery's parent corporation the Ratner Companies based in Vienna.

I must say I think this sums it up....

Caveman haircuts for everyone!

I love OV but really, what was hair cuttery thinking, it should be good PR for the Caps though! Absolutely priceless!

watch out Gilbertology, Ovechkinology is gaining fast!!

What I suspect the Hair Cuttery was thinking is that Ovechkin is the most dynamic and magnetic athlete in his league and in DC area sports.

Posted by: Joe | March 19, 2008 12:10 PM | Report abuse

Thanks, Joe. That's exactly what the Hair Cuttery is thinking.
